Hazard Switch 6 vs. 8 prong for '74 2002tii

I was replacing the hazard switch on my '74 tii (won't stay pressed in and I don't want to try to repair), and I noticed it was a 6 prong switch. The plug is 8 prong. Did the PO screwup? Should I get a 8 prong? The car does has some strange electrical issues (left running lights, dash board lights don't work.) They could be something else, but strange coincidence.

I went through this hazard switch goat-rope with a friend's car not too long ago.  On the modell 71 cars (12 fuse roundies that use the pushbutton hazard switch) there are three terminals that apparently aren't used:  P85, 58D and 31 (look for tiny numbers by each terminal).  That may explain the difference, as I believe the squarelights used the same wiring setup.

As I'm sure you know, your turn signals get their power through the hazard switch through a set of terminal that are hot only with the ignition on, so a wonky flasher switch can make your turn signals either not work at all, or work strangely.

I did a column on troubleshooting those switches, and also how to repair one that won't stay in the off position; PM me if you'd like a copy, or if you're a CCA member, check the July 2019 Roundel.

cheers

AFAIK the resistor on the back of the hazard switch is what causes the internal light to be dim when the dash lights are on--until you turn on the flashers, then it goes bright.  A friend ordered a new hazard switch last year, and it didn't come with the resistor (which is wired between terminals 58d and the un-numbered solder lug).  And his flasher switch stays bright(er) with the lights on than it did with the old, resistor-equipped switch.
