BEHR A/C system - complete less compressor

Crash513

Recommended Posts

Price: $350
Location: Sacramento, CA

Description:

I have a nearly complete BEHR A/C system pulled from my '73 tii during restoration.

According to the PO of my car, the system working fine before he pulled it from the car during the last restoration project in 1990.  The good news is that all the parts that go inside the car are intact and in great shape.  The not so good news is that most of the under-hood components were not stored very well and will need some TLC before they can be put back into service.

Here is what I will include in the sale:

  1. Condenser coil with fan and motor
  2. Compressor bracket for original BEHR compressor
  3. Hoses and fittings
  4. Dryer canister and with hose and wiring
  5. Fan, vent, and evaporator housing for the console (wiring, dials and thermostat included)
  6. Front console panel with ashtray and DIN radio opening
  7. Knobs and screws
  8. Side panels, shift surround, and all mounting hardware

The exterior components are about as crusty as you would expect from being used for 15 years then being stored the next 30.  But everything is intact and can be cleaned up besides the hoses, which of course can be used as patterns to fab new ones.   While I can't guarantee that everything works, I've visually inspected every component and they are all in serviceable or salvageable condition.   The fan on the condenser turns, but is hitting the fan shroud so it will need to be aligned when you install it.  The squirrel cage fan in the evaporator housing turns freely, all the plastic tabs are intact.  There are no cracks in the housing and all the brackets are all in good shape, and all the fasteners are there.  I have the original BEHR installation manual for it which will also be included.

I'm asking $400 plus shipping for everything.  Please PM me if interested.

Thanks,

Crash

Any one who is hoping to air condition an ‘02 and is considering using a 47-year-old receiver/drier and 47-year-old hoses is out of their mind. Can I make that point any clearer. And, from someone who has spent hours — with a fin comb — straightening fins on a Behr condenser in much better condition than this one, I find it hard to believe that any one would consider re-using this condenser — even though they were fine condensers in their day!  Thus, 97% of the value here lies in everything that goes inside the passenger compartment: evaporator/blower, expansion valve, wire harness, switches, console fascia panels, and shift surround.

Crash513 wants to sell and Stevenhy92 wants to buy. $350 is not a bad price to pay for everything that goes inside the passenger compartment, for a Behr unit, the most “factory looking” of the three major brands. You two should make a deal, and discard those never-to-be-used-again engine compartment goodies. Yes, I’m certain I’ve kept similar pieces. And if I ever find them again, I’m going to discard them!

I know what you’re going to say to me, “Mind your own f**king business!” Too late. ??

I don’t generally butt into sales transactions, but this seems like a no-brainer!

(And, Steven, if you don’t buy a copy of Rob Siegel’s Just Needs a Recharge, you’re going to regret it: Rob’s advice will improve your A/C system for just a few bucks!)

I may have pissed you both off, but I’m feeling good about what I just did! ?

Good luck,

Steve

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
