tii Warm Up Regulator

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I have a 1974 tii that I rescued from a 20 year stasis. While sorting out the injection system I found the the warm up regulator cone/piston is sticking in the extended position. When I try to start the car it's extremely lean and will not idle, can anyone tell me about dismantling and cleaning the regulator piston or how best to deal with this problem?

Thanks, Doug

I've never had one that was stuck in the extended position.  There is a very strong spring inside the body that should force it down.  Only the strength of the wax motor will extend the piston.   If it was me, I'd remove and dismantle the WUR completely.

Having said that,  when the piston is fully extended  ALL extra air should be cut off and the tophat adjuster should be free of the fuel enrichment lever.  Therefore the WUR is out of the loop.

You can test to see if the piston is allowing air to seep into the system by clamping the air hose on the back that goes to the underside of the plenum.  If the engine changes rpms then the WUR is not sealing.
