Difference wide vs narrow seat's headrests support

Hello,

I need your brains on this one. Does anyone know why some seats bring narrow headrest supports and other have wide headrest support?.

Is it because ones came on early model cars?

Any information is appreciated!

The post width spacing did change for certain years' seats.  Probably due to some safety statutes.

I agree.  Only the 1975-76 style seats have the closely-spaced supports. This seat, albeit with a slightly different seatcover in the e21 application, appears to have been designed for the new e21 and then “shared” with the ‘02 in the final years of its production.

 

U.S. 1969 through 1974 model seats used widespread headrest supports (yes, many 1969 models manufactured before January 1, 1969 lacked headrests).  U.S. 1966 through 1968 model seats had no headrests.
