Nice '72 on Bring a Trailer

Hodgepodge

I put a bid on the red 02.  I was willing to spend up to 15k for it. I was pretty sure it would go for more.

Round tails, sunroof and red,my kryptonite.  I thought the body looked really solid except for the body shop filling the seams on the front end and by the rear tail lights.  Would of cost another $1200. to get it home.

Plus I have no room for it at the moment. Oh well the search continues.

I got close on that one, bid up to $15,250; but the non-original color was a bit of a put off.  Plus the buyer didn't recommend driving it 400 miles back home (but perhaps he just doesn't like road-tripping in 45 year-old cars).  Either way, my search continues...

I saw your post on driving it back. I texted him about the undercarriage pic's.  He didn't seem like much of a car guy I thought.  400 miles in a 2002 is a ways. No ??

Good looking interior and motor but that's a scary looking car on the outside.  Lots of lipstick on it.

JP5 and Hodgepodge, I have seen this listing, but the "lipstick" comment is the reason I haven't gone to check it out; the weird patch jobs and rust.  Also the gaps between the front end and the front edge of the door scare me..  Lastly. it isn't really a big deal, but he company is located in Pleasanton (a 925 area code) and the phone number is a 408 area code  I realize it is probably a small dealer with some guy using his cell, but still rubbed me wrong.  The search continues.

But in the meantime I can keep myself happy by looking at a picture of myself 25 years ago in/on my first BMW

Good catch on that front clip being a '74 or later.  Jp5, the car should have a silver aluminum grill on different nose sheet metal like all of the '73 and older cars.  The later nose/grill means the car has probably been in an accident that required the replacement of the nose and front fenders,.  This would also explain why the gap between the hood and fenders and fenders and doors are so bad.  In fact, you can almost see a color mach issue between the fenders and doors.  An accident might also explain all the chipping between the doors and the hood (i.e. the hood pushed into the doors and was subsequently opened and closed.)   The aluminum radiator and painted over bolts at the front clip kind of reinforce the accident theory.   Judging from the engine compartment and interior, somebody was very enthusiastic about this car at some point.  But the rust and paint issues suggest that maybe it was sold after an accident and hastily fixed up or perhaps it sat in a body shop or salvage yard for a long time.  I am speculating, but I'm pretty sure this car does not have a happy one-owner story.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
