body and interior Bumper....guard? What's it called?

Hello fellow 02 peeps!   I have a question. I noticed some early 2002's (and maybe 1600s?) sometimes have an extra tube bumper over the main bumper. I'll just post a pic cause I don't know what this is called and or what models came with it or not. I imagine it was an option, perhaps on the 60's models only? Any history, name and other info you may have is greatly appreciated!

I just had a thought....a badge bar?

AMCO overrider bar.  They were aftermarket -- not factory -- and were relatively popular in the late '60's and early '70's.  Still cool today.  Search on "AMCO bar" for multiple references and more information.

Yep - not much structural protection from them vs. the aesthetic.
