  1. Might be low pressure. Possibly the tire size. Has stock steering wheel. I adjusted the steering box as it was very sloppy. It's still a little sloppy but much better. Just got it 2 weeks ago so still going through it. Thanks guys!
  2. Greetings Sirs and Sirettes! My 73 2002 has stock rims but larger e21 size tires (185/80) I notice that the steering is very heavy when turning even at higher speeds. Its heavy compared to my already heavy, non-power assisted E21. I'm wondering if these thicker tires affect the steering? Or maybe 2002's are like that... Also, my rims are black, but I notice many are silver/gray. Did some come in black from the factory? Thanks!
  3. Thanks guys! I guess they're properly adjusted. Oh well, I suppose its one of the two thousand and two idiosyncrasies of the 2002...
  4. Hello Sirs and Sirettes! 2002 noob here with a noob question! My 73' 2002's windows don't quite go down into the door all the way, making my 'cool dude driving with elbow out the window pose' rather uncomfortable. Question: are all 2002's designed with this INTOLERABLE fault or is mine just poorly adjusted? Thanks!
  5. Were you ever able to get the bar watney? I imagine they're a rare as hen's teeth...
  6. Hello fellow 02 peeps! I have a question. I noticed some early 2002's (and maybe 1600s?) sometimes have an extra tube bumper over the main bumper. I'll just post a pic cause I don't know what this is called and or what models came with it or not. I imagine it was an option, perhaps on the 60's models only? Any history, name and other info you may have is greatly appreciated!
  7. Hello all! Quick question, perhaps I know what it is, but I thought I'd throw it out there maybe one of you chaps has had this problem: When I start the car cold (73 Automatic) it'll sometimes 'clunk' under my seat. its kind of loud and I can feel it! Sometimes once other times 2 or 3 clunks. I'm thinking its a loose exhaust mount or maybe the drive shaft?? Haven't looked yet (just bought the car, my fist 2002, last week) but thought I'd put this out there. Thanks! (please don't roast me, I'm a noob I know...)
  8. Hey Mike, can you give us the diameter of both your wheels? I have a 73' Automatic and I'm intrigued!
  9. Wow that's beautiful, I love 1600s! Try and buff that original paint, its always much better if its original. I'll wager a nice buff will make it look incredible. You can treat most of that rust with EvapoRust, that stuff in amazing. Its not an acid and works really well, especially if you can leave the part submerged overnight. I used it a lot on my old motorscooter restos. Keep us posted!
  10. The plastics on the reflectors and the rear lights are a little faded but I have plan! I bought some modeling Tamiya paint that comes in clear red and orange! I'm going to see if that makes 'em look better. More on that later...
  11. Found the shifter cover at 2002AD! Thanks Mo for the tip! I paind a little more cause I didn't see you guy's tips before I -in a fit of excitement- ordered it there first! No biggie, only a few bucks more... Here's few more pics guys. I ordered a new rubber and chrome insert for the front windshield and other bits as well. Let me know if you like it!
  12. Haha, Oh ITS REAL BABY!! I'll get pics up today! Man, I'm glad to see there's people out there that love and cherish their automatics! (Come on, you just have to LOVE that it has a badge that proclaims it so! haha) Someone else told me only like 10-15% from the Hoffman era imports were Automatics? That's a rare and worthy car to care for and maintain, seems to me. Mine came with an interesting service history, great reading! Bits I have to do: I'm going to try and save the original dark blue upholstery. The driver's seat seating area was redone years ago and the back has a tear where the spring went through it as the horse hair (?) stuffing gave up the ghost long ago! I have a guy nearby that I think can repair it and restuff it. The headset on the same needs love as well. The other seats are in pretty good shape! Just need to be re-stuffed. Try and repair a few cracks in the dash. Seen some interesting things online. Carpets are original and in pretty darn good shape. At most the driver's bit by the pedals could be replaced. Not sure if they sell the carpets by bits? Might buy one of those Coco floor mat sets, I like the look, not sure if its considered tacky by 2002 snobs? Who cares.... Might try and find a good condition OG sterring wheel or have mine covered with a leather cover by someone who knows what their doing. Mine has all these chips on it like someone too a small chisel to it! Maybe someone wearing rings? Who knows.. Car is all original, runs really well but needs the following (I just bought it this week!) Carb adjust Steering box adjust or bushings replaced, not sure. All in all its an awesome little car! Here's a few pics I have right now
  13. Hello fellow 2002 peeps and freaks! I'm new to the 2002 world having started slowly with an E30 Cabrio and a couple of E21's. Well, I finally bought a 73' 2002 Automatic (in beautiful Chamonix white...my favorite!) and I want to keep it as is (WOT?? No 5 speed conversion?? NOO!!) I just love the 'Automatic' badge and I don't care about going fast! (actually, its pretty peppy as is, so I'm fine with it) Anyway, I need the shifter plate (not sure what its called, the curved cover plate with the gear indicator window on it) and I was wondering if my model is different to the later, post 73' models? Thanks fellas! -Steve
  14. Hi Dan, I'm looking for a shifter cover plate for my 73' 2002 Automatic. The plastic curved bit at the top with the gear shift selector indicator window. Hope this gets to you! Thanks, Steve
  15. Is it an automatic? I'm looking for the shifter plate/cover. The arched plastic chrome bit with the gear indicator. Thanks!
