Stereo Power Issue

Utah02

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just finished setting up an aftermarket stereo in my car with two 5x7 speakers and two tweeters. After getting it all wired up i turned it on and it worked great... until I started driving. At first it ran perfect as long as I was at idol. Under load if I was accelerating through a gear, the speaker would shut off and turn back on again after a few seconds. As if it just lost power for a second. I immediately assumed my alternator was just done for as it is really old, so I did an e21 alternator swap and the problem remained the same. Now, it shuts off and turns back on every time I accelerate and even sometimes does it when I'm at idol. I check my grounds and power and I think they are good. My ground is on a bolt up by my steering wheel that I read was a fine place for it. My power runs in to my hazard button where the 4 "candy cane" wires connect. Any ideas on what it could be? Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a loose wire of sorts. I ground my stereo off the heater box bolt which is used as a factory grounding point for other electronic components.

Does the stereo its self turn off during acceleration? Might have nothing to do with the power wire and ground and might be directly related to the wiring of the speakers.

Sounds like something moving when you accelerate..  but then, I love Billy Idol too. My car Idols more often than not.

Just kidding.  It really does sound like something is loose and getting progressively worse.
