not mine....just passing it along.  Although in pieces, it appears to be somewhat complete.  Car is in Thousand Oaks.

"Must sell my 74 BMW 2002 tii restoration project. I started this about 12 years ago and life got in the way. I am moving and too much of a hassle to take with me. It is in pieces! Body is straight and rust free last I checked (California car). It has been garaged since pulled apart. Body is primed. Hood, doors, trunk lid, are all painted silver (original color). Engine has been rebuilt, bored, new pistons, rings, bearings, seals, valves, etc., fuel injection pump rebuilt by well known rebuilder. Has 5 sp transmission mated to engine, new exhaust, motor mounts reinforced, LSD diff. AC converted to 134. Front end not installed so must devise dolly to move it. Have many new parts to go with it and extra set of rims. Over 20K invested, its yours for 15K. Clear title too."

What a deal! Invite your buddies over and you'll have this baby back on the road by Monday. LOL! $15K? Maybe $5K if that stored-on-a-drum-in-a-corner engine is actually useable and all the car's components are actually present! Oh..wait...the doors are already painted -- well in that case, $15K sounds just about right!

But seriously, or semi-seriously, or facetiously, does every household in CA have a "tii project" in the garage? These just keep popping up, week after week. You all know what happened to lots of collectibles after eBay arrived: items, such as Hummel figurines, which were perceived as rare and valued in the hundreds of dollars, dropped to $30 and $40 when people realized just how many were manufactured! I'm beginning to believe that the survival rate of '02s, particularly in places such as CA, is far greater than we ever imagined. But, no, I don't actually believe the emergence of all these cars will render them worth a fraction of their peak values!

Regards,

Steve

Guilty as charged....I've had three 1974 tii projects in the last 15 years that I had to abandon due to a move, and loss of storage space.

Don't forget about the ever popular and expensive Beanie Babies!!!  (I hear they are making a comeback...get 'em while they're cheap!)   ;)

I'm on the hunt for one in a "California Garage". I'm sure after enough neighborhood searching it'll come my way.. Or maybe not.

You're not going to grab this beauty, Kevin? Maybe he'd let it go for $14,500!

Steve

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
