For sale is a 1972 BMW 2002. Green on brown interior, automatic. The car is in overall good condition. Body is good and 98 percent rust free. Typical spots such as the floors, frame rails, rockers, shock towers are rust free as well as the hood, trunklid, doors, quarter panels, and front fenders have no rust. Small spot of rust on the lower nose panel, that is it. Chrome is in good condition and paint shines well and is free of major scratches and dings/dents. Interior is nice and clean, seats have no rips and horsehair padding is plush. Dash has one small crack near the seat belt light and steering wheel has no cracks. No speaker holes in the doors or rear shelf by back window. Brake system has been renewed with new calipers, wheel cylinders, pads/shoes, rubber brake lines, and a majority of the steel brake lines have been replaced. New water pump and most of the coolant hoses have been replaced. Solex one barrel carb has been rebuilt recently and also the car was tuned up with new wires, cap, rotor, points and condenser. Tranny shifts as its supposed to. Engine runs smooth, however there is a mis-fire and one cylinder has low compression. Engine will need to be overhauled. Despite this, the car drives well and can be driven as is. My intention with the car was to swap the engine from a parts car into it along with a five speed manual, but with winter coming I don't have the space to do the job or store the car, so it needs to go. Clear title comes with the car, price is $5,300 or best offer. Car is located in Westfield, MA.

This is not my car please don't contact me.  It's not often you see a roundie in New England these days never mind your own town.

I will say I really like the improvements to the site since the last time I logged in.

Looks pretty decent, wonder where Rob Siegel is, it's in his neck of the woods. Well if his woods include off the Mass Pike near Springfield.

I used to own an automatic 2002, it was a blast to drive.

Not 100% sure but Westfield MA is where I bought my 73tii.  That pic sure looks like where I drove and inspected my car.

If the same seller, GLWTHS.

Yeah Jim the car is mine, I had actually made a post here about it when I bought it.  Picked it up with the engine problem as a project but have decided not to go forward with repairing myself.  Not a bad car for anyone in the North East looking for something without major rust issues.   Drive it as-is or swap in a good engine and your good to go.

Agave green 02 automatic roundies have popped up accidently on me (3) times around here but have never been able to contact their owners..

Yours looks like the nicest I have seen yet.

HMM - yours looks very similar to this one Marshall Lytle and I noticed about 1 year ago near his neighborhood but it disappeared the next time we drove around.  Does yours have (or had) an Apple sticker in the rear window?  IIRC, it also had CA tags on it.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
