First 1973 2002tii (USA spec) - Project Car

I think that triple the asking, is very optimistic.  Even money if anything.  Particularly when you consider the effort and expense to pack and ship all of the large parts..  Its a ton of work either way.

My original analysis of the situation is this.. (and in reviewing the pics, nothing has changed. Even the new hood is doinked)

Considering the level of body rot, I'm going to say that the Tii boxed trailing arms are probably toast. I have seen cleaner Tiis with arms that had to be sourced.. And that goes for the rear sub-frame as well.  The front struts/springs already look pretty scabby and could have stuck inserts and/or perforated spring perches.  The E-brake cables are probably not coming out and will require new tubes be sourced.  Old work at the bottom of the A pillar is already rusting at the seams Dash is late, and cracked.  Seats are toast.  And if Foreign did the motor, in my experience, that's not a huge confidence builder either..etc, etc.

I'm sorry, but there really isn't much for redeeming quality here.. and the VIN, while a curiosity yes, isn't significant.  The car is basically a mid-run Tii.

That being said, this is a car for a capable and suicidal enthusiast to save.  Its evident that no one else will be willing to take this on, from in investor perspective. I don't foresee a break even on total investment, even if it were brought back professionally and offered up for sale.  This car is simply used up.  Someone really had a heck of a life enjoying it, and that's OK.  (But it doesn't add to the value for the rest of us.)

With that much factory replacement sheet metal, it's a shame the car wasn't taken down to the tub, media blasted and rotisseried before doing anything. Plus, it looks like some of the panel replacement has been done out of order- the rocker panels (inner and outer) don't appear to have been replaced/repaired before the quarters went on, and the tab on the quarter to which the rear decklid bolts through behind the C pillar goes under the rear window cowl not over it, etc.. Check those frame rails up front for impact repair- RF wheel looks a little too far back.. or it could be the strut is simply not attached at the moment.

Aside from whatever is up with motor, I think this has potential to be a great deal for someone with the skills and patience. The body panels alone (doinks or no doinks) is a huge bonus.

Good luck with the sale.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
