steering and suspension Front subframe question

So I was organizing parts and getting ready to take some parts to have media blasted when I noticed that my spare front subframe has an extra tab on the right side.  The only thing  I know is that different between the two is that the one with the tab is from a 73 and the one I took from my car is a 72.  Does anyone know what the little tab is for?  All opinions and information

are appreciated.

hmmmm, thats a mystery i just did that same swap. put a 72 in a 73, no tab.

I haven't seen any subframes with that tab.  The parts graphics show the heat shield as a bolt-on piece - not detailed enough.

my 75 subframe has one.  the later cars had them to hold heat shields around the idler bushing

Hmm, so it sounds like it would not hurt to go with tab and not need it than the other way around.  Thanks, you guys are fantastic.  Full of information.

don't forget to reinforce the DS engine mount area while you have the subframe out!
