Home Testing A Heater Core

Recommended Posts

I seem to have collected a couple of heater boxes along the way and would like to test the cores for leaks before I sell them. Any suggestions? I was intending to just put a stopper in each end and then submerge them in a bath tub looking for bubbles, but is that enough pressure?

Have you tried a search yet? There was a recent long thread initiated by thehackmechanic on the subject of pressure-testing heater cores.

RIG A HOSE connection so you can pump up to 20 psi pressure,

submerge core in bath - watch for bubbles

it sould be obvious if it was leaking by dried antifreeze residue
