So a friend has a very nice Merc sedan from sometime in the 60's-

it has a trapezoidal mirror just like the 2002 version.

I'll take pics next time I'm over there...

YES THEY DO .

late 1960's - pre 1974 ("New Generation") W114 W115

glass and the white plactic retaining trim

and some of those side lights are just reflectors,

some actually contain bulb/harness,

some yellow, and some red
