Setting door glass - issues

Recommended Posts

Hi

Struggling with setting the door glass on the right side door. I can't get the glass to crank all the way to the top so that it seals. I have loosened the stops on both ends, so these don't come into play. When I crank to the top, I can hear a metallic clunk, so there is something stopping the mechanism.

The glass is higher towards the back of the car than the front, and if I pull on the glass in the front is comes up by about half an inch.

Anyone else had a similar issue?

Its the stamped aluminum rivet that is in the center of the reg. spring. Its worn and twists in its hole, preventing the window from pushing up all the way. The pop sound is the worn rivet returning to the normal position when you twist the handle the opposite direction...

You can try removing the reg and centering the rivet, and then try and whack the center with a punch to re-spred the rivet material.

Also, on the spring side, the slot where the spring center fits into this rivet material, the metal bends and opens the slot more, creating slop. If you try to eand and close this up, it will snap. Ask me how I know....

Best fix, find a good used reg, or buy a new one for 150-ish...
