Lower seat adjuster handle removal procedure?

Is there some "secret" to getting the black plastic handle off the lower seat adjuster lever? I have a new replacement and there is no catch, or anything, in the cavity, but I can't get my old one off. Did the factory glue it on, or is it just 37 yrs. in the same place that is making it hard to get off?

I just levered it off.

pull really hard. it is just pressed on.

Take a pair of screwdrivers or other kind of rods and place one on each side of the black handle where it meets the shaft of the adjuster. Lever the screwdrivers off of the base member so that the screwdrivers are pushing upwards on the bottom end of the black handle. The black handle should slide right off.

I grabbed mine with a pair of Channel Locks, twisted, grunted, pulled, and cussed. Finally they popped off.

Thanks, Guys. Maybe I'll squirt some RostOff up in there and give it a day to work and then try to get it off. I'll post method and result.
