C.D., Tom Jones... Can we talk Turbo..??

Hey guys,

There's a local guy here who owns a Turbo (presumably Factory Stock) and contacted Steve (aka Blunt), about helping him get his car started. Steve subsequently contacted our group to see if anyone could go look it over and possibly lend a hand.

In emails w/ the owner, a possible 'tell' is that he says the Fuel Pump no longer makes a 'whirring' sound when he turns the key. We'll check the pump, grounds, fuse, drop-out relay (if so equipped).

My intent is to go over and make sure the car is within spec - Timing, Plugs, Advance, possibly valve lash, check fuel pressure... the basic Fuel Air Spark diagnostics.

Problem is, my manuals do not have any of the Turbo specs.

Do you guys, or anyone else for that matter, know what these are? Timing, Advance, Spark Gap, Fuel pressure, Valve Lash...??

Thanks in advance... and I'll be sure to post some pics !!

Cheers!

no drop out sw. for the pump - pump just runns and runns with the

the key "ON"

disconnect the main fuel filter hose at the radiator and get a sample

of gas into a clear bottle - 30 sec's should give about 1 liter

T in a fuel pressure hose to the cold start injector = 30 psi

remove plastic cover for the front Kugelfischer

drive cog belt - this is one of the top 3 things to look at first

compression test

ck valves - inspect condition of valve/cam/rocker area for nastyness

for starting it doesn't matter that it's a 2002 turbo,

-all the basics matter. COMPRESSION, IGNITION, FUEL PRESSURE

HAPPY TURBO HUNTING!

Fuel Pressure is the same as a Tii 28 PSI

Throttle linkage set up is the same as a Tii, use the same special tools (hooked tool in the linkage/pump body at the pump, Pin in the throttle housing and the special jig to set the linkage rod length )

Timing is set at 25 deg BTDC @ 2500 rpm (the ball on the flywheel with the engine at 2500)

Plug gap 0.024"

Valve Lash same as all 2002's 0.006-0.008"

Cold start injector system is exactly the same as a Tii

Cold start enrichment at the pump and mixture adj for the Turbo is unique to the turbo and you should not have to play with it just to get it started.
