compression test

I picked up a 2002 motor and wanted to find out if its better than the one in my car. I than wanna rebuild the worse off one, so the new one i got i hooked a batt to the starter and put a compression tester on it and read about 110 across the board i know its good that they are all basically the same but is 110 a decent reading? Im going to do a test on the one in my car tomorow but i already know the one in my car burns a good amount of oil.

carb throat wide open)...110 is a little low. Not fatally low, but not that great either.

Didja do a wet and dry test? First dry, then squirt a little oil down the spark plug holes. If the compression comes up noticeably, then the low compression is ring wear; if it doesn't come up, then the wear is valve stems/seals/valve seating.

cheers

yeah, even is good. Do the oil thing if you can,

but otherwise, the 'one- off cold compression test' isn't

going to confirm a good engine- but it can condemn a bad one.

If you think it cranked slowly... well, everything in life

is a gamble, this one doesn't sound like bad odds.

Go for it.

It should work.

Do a leakdown test to back up your compression results, it better pinpoint any compression leaks.
