This is a direct replacement for 2002 pull rod BMW part #35414440125.

This upgraded pull rod is stainless steel, I custom bent it to exactly match the factory rod, threaded the ends and installed steel heim joints with jam nuts on the ends. The bolts are SS with nylon lock nuts, 6mm on the bottom to attach to the pedal box and 1/4 in on the top to fit the lager hole in the carb shaft. Anti size was applied the threads and you can increase the length of the rod by adjusting the joints. There is NO PLAY in these joints but they allow for side movement from Minor misalignment, body flex or engine movement. Now the pedal and the carburetor move as one NO PLAY!!! $60.00 shipped to any USA address

Harry: Re: the rod. It is probably the same, but if you look at the link I provided above (which is for automatics only) you'll see that the end connectors are very different. You can need up to an inch of vertical adjustment on the upper end of the rod in order to get the kickdown function correctly adjusted. If you sell the rod only with the bottom connector only, at a somewhat reduced price because there is no need for the top end connector (it would not work on an automatic), then it would make sense. The top end would require at least 1½" of thread, as per the original, for the req'd adjustment. Sorry that my previous post was not clear.

I have also just noticed that the rod in my wife's '76 and in my '75, both of which have never been switched, or even removed, are straight. There is no kink in them like the manuals apparently have, even though RealOEM and BMWfans.info both show it with the bends. I think in looking at the cars, that they would work with the bend, and I'm not sure why BMW changed them in the late automatics.

I was incorrect above about the kickdown adjustment. It is a seperate item on the rod leading to the carb. There's a cable leading down to the auto tranny that adjusts the kickdown, so I would think Harry's rod would work fine on the automatics. Pardon my brain-fade - at least it was temporary.

Hi Bob, Well I don't have a auto and you do :) but the BMW parts list for the auto at link you sent and at Penske BMW site I linked to, see 35/8 diagram, show the same part #35414440133 for the pin at the top rod as the manual has ? , also Penske shows the auto rod NA, so I guess the manual and auto rod are now 1 part #, would be nice to have them side by side to compare.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
