I have the chance to buy a used stock engine out of a '73 2002 for 100$. It turns freely, but I do not know the history of the engine. I don't have experience rebuilding, so would have to have it done. lots of variables and unknowns, but what do you think ?

remove the cam cover and see if it's clean,

or filled with cocochino putty - that will aleast

give some indication on 'condition'

JAJAJA you said Cochino. It could have Mocos, and Miedra as well. =)

$100 is cheap. Sounds like a perfect time to read up on rebuilding, and in your spare time take it all apart and check it out.

+1 95% chance that its a good motor that isn't locked up for rebuild. It may have had bad compression, etc. But thats not a concern in this case.

For a $100 engine that turns freely - at worst consider it a rebuildable core.
