ordered clutch kit from autohaus and my mechanic says everything is too large. Is 228mm Diameter correct size for a 1974 2002?

nope. stock is 215mm. see #2 and 3, up to 74 stock clutch is 228mm, 74 and later is 215mm

couldn't u also just change out the flywheel to a 228 one?

nope. stock is 215mm. see #2 and 3, up to 74 stock clutch is 228mm, 74 and later is 215mm

Thanks. My mechanic had installed the pilot bearing when he noticed the new clutch was the wrong size. I'll have to return the clutch kit to Autohaus without the pilot bearing as I wasn't going to have them remove it. Hopefully that won't be a problem. My current clutch they said was only worn 50%, and with as little as i drive my car would probably last me 3 years!! I was having a 4speed transmission installed and figured i'd put in a new clutch. Oh well.

If your clutch is 50% and you drive it normally,

it should last you about 10 years.

Seriously.
