"It ran when it was parked - in 1989!!!"

Recommended Posts

Found this 1975 Sahara on CL in Tucson, AZ. From all the research I've been able to do, it appears the car was last registered in '89. Parked due to marriage/relocation. I was also able to determine the car had about 60K miles in 1986. Currently, the odometer reads 70K.

Car has plenty of surface rust, from our Monsoon storms we get in the summer. Worse rot in trunk, between shock towers, but not on, and on window sills. What appears to be rust in some other areas is basically baked-on paint. The sun out here can be brutal. Interior (with the exception of the headliner) is pretty well trashed.

First steps - Drain fuel tank, replace fuel lines, MMO and drain/re-fill oil, new battery, plugs/wires, belts, hoses, brakes, and probably lots of other things.

I'm a sucker, but, just can't stand to watch the car get any worse.

Southern Arizona is an awesome place to store vehicles for an extended period of time. Google AMARG or Evergreen Air Center, to see what I mean. This poor girl may be cooked, though...

Should make a a fun summer (rescue) project. Thanks, as always, to the forum, for the great info and support you all provide!

Malaga car in the pic was parked in 89. 89k miles no tranny. Evidently the lady owner took it to a shop and the transmission was never repaired and the car never picked up. I just passed it on to a much younger owner. It fired up and ran . I was really surprised.

You don't have to go out west to get some good dash cracks.

More in this dash off to the right - not in picture

We shall see that Malaga on the road soon enough! I've got a 5-speed just waiting to be dropped in. Hopefully it won't be sitting for another 12 year period. :)

Thanks Andy!

Edit: Oops, so it is 22 years.....and I'm getting my work done boss! :P
