Saw this on craigslist. Usually I just search by owner to weed out MY2002 BMWs, but this one popped up. Potential deal time?

Here's the website.

If you watch the video the 2002 comes in around 5:11. I would assume it's golf yellow.

i was thinking about this auction all morning because i work within 10 minutes of the auction. i was tempted to sneak out for a peek, but reality set in and i have too many 02 projects already. it looked like a nice car.

if i ever need a nameless grocery-getter on the cheap, i will consider checking this auction out again.

i'd love to see what the highest bid was. the opening bid was $400 on all these cars.

Former owner of 2570440 & 2760440
Current owner of 6 non-op 02's

I just called. I guess it's not sold yet or didn't meet reserve.

There is a bid from a dismantler for $1800-$1900 according to the nice lady on the phone.

Did you get any more specifics on the car? Actually looked OK from the one picture...

Like others - I would have gone had work not intervened.

I was the owner of this car. It got towed away from my house in Oakland because the tags were out, and I didn't have the money at the time to pay off parking tickets and registration and tow fees. So I signed it over to these terrible A&B impound people. It was a very sad day.

I don't know if the car was sold yet, but if it is still there I can answer any questions anyone has about it. I hope it goes to a good home.

Oh man, that is quite sad. I hope this story has a happy ending with the new owner showing up. Hopefully not the dismantler.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
