McNeely Motorsports 2002ti build

Recommended Posts

So i thought you guys would like to see another 2002 getting brought back to life. The goal for the car is to show it at The Vintage.

This car is not a real ti obviously but was previously built with with semi clone status. The previous owner bought the car about 20 years ago as a tired 73 automatic and is the owner of a European garage. He had the body painted and started to add some sweet parts he had obtained. Here is what it looked like.

The car go to this point and then more pressing projects took over in the shop and the car sat largely untouched for the last 15 years. When it was pulled out of storage our customer decided he would want to buy the car and have us do a full restore to it.

The car has all powder coated tii suspension and brakes. A warmed up stage 3 Korman motor with dual 40's Tii manifold, distributor and a few other goodies. It has Tii booster and master as well as a dogleg 5 speed and a 3.91 lsd.

We started the build by documenting all spare parts and sorting all the parts. Then the disassembly of the car and its parts.

Heres the owner tom helping out with insulation removal. The car is a very clean chassis and a great starting point for this restoration. We did find some evidence of a previous hit to the drivers front nose, fender and door. The nose is original but the fender and door are replacements at some point.

On Monday we worked late and finished up mounting the car to the rotisserie and man was that some work lol. We started about 6pm and finished 3am on tuesday lol.

On tuesday the blaster started his blasting process with the soda and getting our car all clean. His blasted all day tuesday and we found some more bondo in the drivers rear quarter and a few other places but nothing that cant be knocked out and fixed the right way.

He had to come back yesterday to finish up the doors and other bolt on items. We also getting some doors and boot and bonnet from a parts car of mine that i sold to my boss for his 1600 he just picked up. Will have to get some pics up of that soon. Well here is what she looks like as of last night at about 8 o clock.

We have already started gathering some parts for it like seats and misc. other interior bits. Scored big on a really nice set of italian turns. 40 dollars for the pair at a bmw swap meet at our business park.

Should have a big order into BMW by the end of next week and the car will go to the paint shop to day to get its new color of Fjord blue. We are kinda combining what we think are the best parts of all the years of 02's. It will have early bumpers front and rear with european license plate lights and no over riders. Delete lower trim and markers and euro headlight buckets. Will add pictures of this as we go. Any questions or comments let us know.

Looks like a great project and I like the shade of blue in the photos.

But it kind of irks me when people call a non ti a ti. Maybe it shouldn't bug me, but it kind of makes it seem like there are

more ti's around then there actually is.

Why not refer to it as a 2002 with dual carbs? Rant over.

That looks awesome!!!! If you don't mind me asking how much was it to get the entire car soda blasted? I have mine on a rotisserie right now also and figure why not do it right the first time.

Thanks,

Chris

I totally understand the wanting to do it right the first time. When the customer bought this example it was very nice, but we still tore it down. He wanted to have a very nice car that was clean and reliable.

The soda blaster charged 1500. Now that included the hood, trunk, doors and sunroof. Also he blasted inside the trunk and the interior.
