  1. Where are you located? Extremely interested if the first two fall out.
  2. Still super jealous of you car Sir!!! I am happily saving money right now down in flight school, awaiting for the right shell to pop up near me so I can put that darn turbo motor that is still sitting in my garage in it!!! I look forward to seeing more progress on this car, always one of my favorites!!! Chris (Oh and no longer a Midshipman anymore, now an Ensign)
  3. Man I love working with clecos and solid rivets!!! I too was an airplane mechanic! I worked up in WA on the EA-6B Prowlers, I loved those jets and they taught me how to fully appreciate metal fabrication! I love all the detailed work you have done with this car!!! The dash looks awesome and I am very impressed at what you can do with a drill press and some tools that were supposed to be used in a bridgeport!! the overall build looks awesome man, keep it up! Oh and that push pull rod for the front strut brace is awesome!!!! What planes did you work on and where? -Chris
  4. HOLY AWESOME! The fabrication ability you have shown is beyond words, I thought I had it nice with my welding tables and water jet back at school but damn I would love to see the rest of that shop! As for the car, are you going to stiffen or join the unibody and front and rear subframes at all to try and counter the torqe of that new engine? As Manimal said if you ever need FSAE type help look here as well, while not as high end as GFR, but me and my Navy team held our own this past year. Those shafts you made look beautiful by the way! -Chris
  5. Does anyone know if the lower alternator mount is a bolt or is it a cast piece integrated to the case? Mine snapped off when I tore the motor down a long time ago and I am now trying to mount to alt back on and cant without this piece! Any ideas? -Chris
  6. School is over!!!!! So I finally graduated and now I have a bit of time to work on the engine that I received from the shop about a year ago! Long story short I lost the place to work on the entire car a little over a year ago, sold the body and a few bits and kept everything else (motor, subframes, interior, suspension... Everything except the body) The plan for the next month while I am still working in this shop is to get the motor to a running state on a test stand before i move to Pensacola FL to start flight school. From there I will find a body and start over again fresh. The motor has been completely rebuilt by a local shop. Forged pistons, H-Beam rods, ARP fastners, stiffer valve springs, 278* cam, new oil pump, chains, oversized titanium valves, rocker locks, new rockers... basically everything new! Also to include dropping the compression to 8.5 to 1 for the turbo, hopefully boosting to a mild 12 psi and possibly more. I'm running the 666 Fabrication Manifold by Jon along and planning on a full Megasquirt setup soon from Bruce Bowling. So far this is where I am at with the run stand. Laying out the frame. Gotta Love the water jet!!!! And lastly Jon's Beautiful manifold!!! Ill add some more to this tomorrow, its time to go get ready for the BBQ and fireworks!!! Happy 4th Of July Everyone!!! -Chris
  7. Hey guys, I'm finally going to try to finish this motor up but I need the bracket for the High Output Alt first. Let me know if you have either of the two brackets please. -Chris
  8. Heist, What clear did you shoot? I am doing our FSAE Car next week, just curious what you used... -Chris
  9. Congrats with the sale, but I cant say I'm happy about it... only two more months and that would have been mine!! I hope he is able to finish what you started with that beautiful platform! -Chris
  10. Why the change from the stretch of the fenders that you did earlier? Just like the look of the rabbit flares better? -Chris
  11. Iv'e done it and it worked great! I cut out a corner panel and a few other spots and it held together just fine. I would say if your cutting out a lot of material all at once then internally brace it regardless of mounting point used. It allows full access to the lower body, trunk (through the gas tank hole) and other side spots. Check my blog about Veronica, there are pics there of it mounted to the rotis. Sadly I dont have her anymore. Hope this helps. -Chris
  12. Next up... full roll cage!!!!!
  13. Is the engine stock? Good thing your bracing the crap out of it for when the V-TEC kicks in... In all goodness though I like the cage and the bracing, please keep the updates coming!
  14. MMMMMMMMM if you can hold onto that till I get out of here ill gladly put that to good use!!!!! I have a complete 2002 in a closet at my sisters house minus a shell, and that one looks great. Plus I have a great powerplant for that!!! I cant wait till I graduate! Oh and not to brag but we got our service selection results and im headed to FL to become a Naval Pilot! So if you can hold onto that or take payments (read: Small, Im still a mid) I would love to take that off your hands and take it to FL with me! -Chris
  15. NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Crap, I guess it was destined to the scrap bin! I do have the title... actually in my hand right now and I think I still have the VIN plate from the top of the steering column if that helps. So sad right now. But hey I just got the motor out of the shop, it will live again just in a new home. -Chris
  16. I have removed many stuck screws and other threaded items with simple screw extractors. I would first apply liberal heat to the casting around the broken piece, not to hot to melt things but hot enough to expand it a bit and break the pieces loose, then slowly... real slow start with the screw extractor. Also don't break the extractor off inside... they are tempered and are nearly impossible to get out.. ask me how i know. Good luck and have patience, it will come out. -Chris

  18. Ok well I guess no one will bite at the recaro's, lets drop it a hundred bucks and see what happens. Help me fund my trip back home this Christmas, its been over 4 years since I was last home!!!! Lets call it $450?? -Chris
  19. Up for grabs are some wheels that I have never seen on an 02 before, they have some curb rash as noted by the pics below. The rubber is still very good, size 175/70R13, I would say 80-90% on all. Asking $100. Also available is a very good set of recaros. Not exactly sure of the model but they are perfect for a daily driver. The passenger seat is a bit faded from the previous owner. I have never installed these seats but I did replace the webbing under them because the originals were shot. The driver side is missing the side post to lean the seat forward and the passenger side is missing the upper piece of plastic on the joint at the bottom. There are NO HOLES in the bolsters!! The only separation is on the tops of the seats at the seams. The worst one is pictured below. Asking $550. Prefer not to ship. All of this stuff is located in Eldersburg MD, if you have any questions please email me @ m122178 @ USNA . EDU Thanks for looking, Chris
  20. I say block it smooth like it is and shoot 6 coats of clear on it!!! The passenger side looks sick! I think I counted about 12 layers... close? -Chris
  21. Looks good so far, what are you using for spark control? Megasquirt? I am going to start assembling my motor in a few weeks hopefully. -Chris
  22. Marshall, for now I will just be holding onto it. Its going in the closet with the rest of the parts until after graduation then once I get to Florida or my next duty station I will be buying a roller/shell of an 02 and continuing where I left off. Also did you still want to test those brackets out? I think I lost all the emails we had going when I reformatted my computer before school. Let me know, it takes about 10 minutes to cutout a set of those brackets. -Chris
  23. Guys, I'm in need of a RMS for my engine, this is the last piece that I need to get for the team building my motor. Anyone got an extra on that's local to Annapolis, MD that I can get this coming week sometime or this weekend? -Chris
  24. Veronica and a 2000 Cherokee "Marissa" All my vehicles have always had names and always will, make the drive more personal...
