EGR, Clean/Repair or Remove?

Can i clean/repair the EGR?, is it still sold new?, or should i remove the whole system? cost of removal? i really believe it's malfunctioning and causing all my issues.

I'm not an expert, but I believe if you remove the first thing labled "what's this" you'll have more problems than you think (mechanical fuel pump)

LOL, Oh i that what that is? i wasn't suggesting the removal of that item, but all the EGR/Emissions components.

no EGR in this photo - arrow indication "egr?" is really a fuel return valve.

and the "whats this?" arrow is pointing to a mechanical

fuel pump

the above photo is good because it shows no tangle of hoses,

and plumbing from Air Pump, EGR emission control parts.

no EGR there

and NO - you cannot revive an EGR valve -

hot corrosive gases pass through it eating out the innards

which would cause a leaking valve when it should

be closed and sealed. When a EGR valve 'leaks' internally,

you have a lousy idle, to no running at all, and major loss of power during acceleration

wow thanks so much. i need a diagram to figure out what my engine components are.

dont take all CD's words for granted...i refurbished the complete EGR system on my Automatic 02 and is TOTALY doable, i did it just for the sake of going against everyones argumentation, but i ended up blocking the egr flow OFF since even when 100% new it is a bit on the edge.

remove the EGR unit and clean the passageway with spray solvent. Then test for valve actuation with a hand operated vacuum pump. If it has stage one and stage two pull on both vacuum ports. Watch for valve action ... the piston in the bottom moves. If the valve is jammed or if the diaphram leaks you have to toss it and get another one. Unfortunately new ones are pricy but there are used ones that can be cleaned and put into service.

the thing you've labelled 'egr' is actually the idle fuel bypass valve.

If it's working right, it does a good job of reducing flooding at hot idle.
