  1. Mine cleaned off very nicely with a sandblaster...but this might not be everyone's preferred approach.
  2. Excellent graphics. But I thought all the cool kids had round taillights...
  3. The window seals are a big leak point, and it never hurts to refresh them with new ones. Also, you will need to remove the windows if you are going to replace the headliner. Better to take the glass out in my book.
  4. When I removed my sunroof cables, it seemed like I just looked at the plastic part crossways and it snapped. Don't be surprised if the plastic is very fragile - if it is the original.
  5. I gave the painter a big wad of cash...and he did live in a not-so-nice part of town. What can go wrong?
  6. I took the car to the painter. Found an experienced painter who works out of his house doing hot rods and muscle cars, and he had done a couple hot rod trucks for a buddy. I had the weirdest feeling: it was like sending the kids to school for the first time or dropping them off at college. I had a melancholy feeling like I hope I did everything I was supposed to do...and I hope it comes out OK.
  7. In every car I had a problem like that, I switched to an electric fuel pump. Dunno if it helped, but it made me feel like I was doing something productive. Also putting some insulation on the fuel lines has helped. I know what you mean about being spooked about driving when it might not feel reliable. Make sure you have your AAA membership up to date and you will be fine.
  8. Electric fuel pump or mechanical? Kind of sounds like vapor lock. Maybe a bubble of vapor in the line that prevented the bowl from filling but it has enough gas for idle. Sounds like the gremlin disappeared once you pulled over. Got to love the daily driver 02 in the high county.
  9. That makes a lot of sense. I had not heard of that modification. Learn something new every day.
  10. Where are these 'new holes' supposed to go? Can you provide pictures? My painter is coming to look at the car tomorrow...
  11. That makes a lot of sense. Other than splicing in lots of fat red wires into the wiring harness, the previous owner did not seem to do much damage by changing things up. My plan is to keep the rear seats as they are (once scrubbed clean) and either recover the front seats or pony up for Recaros in the same color. I am planning on getting new door cards and handles in saddle. If I could only get a new dashboard...
  12. Here's the rear seat, along with the tags underneath.
  13. Thanks - I'll give the seats and rear cards a thorough scrub and see what we find. The door cards are black and have speaker holes in them, so I was planning on replacing them. Since I bought the car 31 years ago, they have always had sheepskin covers on them. The seat bottoms were ripped prior to 1991 and the previous owner got the sheepskin covers. I drove the car for 100K miles, then the kids drove it in high school, but it has sat outside for 15 years or so before I began this restoration. So the seats probably have had - at most - 'only' 15-20 years in the burning Colorado sun. Thanks again for the help sorting this out. These things are always a mystery.
  14. @Conserv The tag underneath the driver's side backrest. July 1972.
  15. @Conserv Here's some pictures of the seats and rear panels. There was a very fragile tag under the passenger's seat that might shed some light.
  16. @Conserv Do you have the concordance for 1972 2002's? I am restoring my Agave 2002 and it has a mishmash of interior pieces, but the rear seats and side panels appear to be tobacco (a bit more reddish than saddle from what I can tell).
  17. @BarneyT Beautiful. Did you lead the top corners between the fenders and the front sheet metal?
  18. @larry_in_socal Same here - ordering from as many suppliers as possible. Key is good communication. I tried contacting Ireland by hitting 'reply' to my invoice - but the email address was misspelled in their software so it bounced right away. I tried sending with a 'correctly' spelled sales@iemotorsports.com, but that doesn't work, either. Someone did not do much usability testing. Amazon is killing these suppliers because we inherently expect free shipping and delivery in 2 days. Truth is, shipping charges used to be a profit center - especially when they have negotiated rates for shipping. Most of the places where I have placed repeat orders use flat rate USPS or something similar - such as Blunt.
  19. After reading this entire thread, I ordered half a dozen parts from Rogers yesterday. They were fulfilled and shipped in 3.5 hours.
  20. I placed a big order from Ireland with 10-12 items. They charged full freight FedEx shipping prices for *each* item (at least $20 per item), which summed up to over $250 in FedEx charges. Of course, they delayed shipment because one item was not available - and shipped it in one box - for far less than $250. And when we cancelled the one item that was not available, they did not bother to refund the $20+ I 'paid' for 'shipping' the item. Sounds like Rogers will be the go-to place going forward.
  21. This is probably what the previous owner used.
  22. Bluntech has a set for $70. I haven't yet done the rear brakes, so I don't have experience with the right shoes. BluntTech Industries • 2002 Brake Shoe Set WWW.BLUNTTECH.COM 230mm
  23. Started laying out the shiny new powder coated suspension pieces. In the living room, of course.
  24. Thanks for having a look. Those thin, formed sheet metal pieces get distorted easily when removing them. Obviously, since they *used* to put them in a rebuild kit. I'll re-think my reluctance about RTV, too.
