Redid the safety wiring on my struts to improve on the crappy job I did a few years ago.

My passenger side door seal had come loose, making it tough to close the door etc. It was a minor thing when I cruise around alone, or go to autoX by myself. But Sonja and I are about to head to MidAmerica 02 Fest. So I reglued the seal.

Then, I checked and adjusted the pushrod on my clutch master cylinder. I learned about that process this week at my shop job, and I helped a friend on his 02 clutch master as well. Then I realized I'd never really adjusted mine. And the car always shifted hard, sort of balky.

Hey, guess what! The pushrod was out of spec, and needed to be extended more than a quarter of an inch. The car shifts normally now.

I did not know that could be adjusted I will check mine.

  2. One of the three bolts attaching the drop arm to the strut was found to be broken off apparently by a past shadetree mechanic.  Fortunately after I removed the other two bolts it unscrewed by hand!  Other pic is my "cleaning station" (vats of super clean).  Next step is removal of any remaining loose paint / scale by wire brush then rust converter / primer.

I believe I saw you pull in w/ your white 2002 but afterwards I didn't see / catch up w/ you.  I had not planned to attend however decided late to do so a went in my camper van (stayed across the street).  It was a great show, I thought!  Just a couple of pics I took...

    Installed a Solid-State Voltage Regulator

    I used a Hella 5DR 004 243-041 that I used on my '78 BMW motorcycle.

My original Bosch VR (0 190 601 006) was only charging at 13.6 V on a good day.

What a difference!  Now charging steadily at 14.0 to 14.2V.

BTW ... your VR does not have to be grounded to the chassis. The alternator body does, with a good 10 or 12-gauge wire.

Does existing wiring / connector hook right up to these or are mods necessary?

Yes, my dad did lots of work to that car in high school, and that picture is the finished product. It was a rust bucket when he first got it and he found a rust free shell... but it was just the A-pillars and behind. So he cut the car up at the A-pillars and welded in the new rust free shell, which would have been a 1971, and so I guess he decided to keep the shorty bumpers as well, which the car still has. Hope that makes sense lol.

    Makes perfect sense! 😁

My father’s 1972 2002 which he still has, parked at our home in Winnipeg, spring of 1983. Next up is my 1976 in spring of 2021, same spot, same house. I swear part of the reason I got my car was to recreate this photo lol!

I notice the 1972 has 1971 rear bumper?

I'll be there sans car as what I've sold into "management" as R&D for my ongoing 69' project.

Also reserved a RV spot at Hot Spring Resort with my 72' airstream. Nice to bring my two hobbies together.

Really looking forward to putting faces and beers with forum handles.

Ill be camping in my 20’ class B van…

My driver side window/door had gotten really rattlely and the window was doing odd things as I rolled it up and down.

Removed the doorcard to discover the rear window track basically floating in place with only one bolt remaining.

The good news is, once I got it all back together, I made a couple minor adjustments and now the window seals up more or less correctly. Wind/road noise in the cabin is greatly reduced on the highway. I can even hear my mono Blaupunkt radio when I'm on the highway!

sounds like something i should check before putting my cards back on!

Sorry for the long wait. Our powder coater is having oven issues so we are stuck waiting. We can’t wait to get everything out to everyone. Thanks for your patience.

speaking of powder coating at some point I want to have my four original 72 steel wheels sandblasted and powder coated and I’m wondering if anyone can tell me the approximate range or price something like that might cost.
