  1. Harry - Wonderful, I will wait until you have both parts. Shouldn't there be a "smoking cigarette" on the knob insert? Is that early or late? Is my 3/72 car early or late? Thanks! - Rob
  2. Hi, Harry - Yeah, it was me! I don't need a set of four switches as much as I need a good cig lighter. My car is 3/73. Is that "early"? The cig lighters that have the logo on the place where you push, is that correct for early or later? Still learning. I'll send you a check, thanks, Harry. My cousin, Sam Chapin, lives on Long Pond, by the way. - Rob
  3. Hi, Harry - Well, I am interested in the male an female parts of the cig lighter, especially if it has the logo on the pushbutton. Let me know, thanks! - Rob rcsteinway@earthlink.net
  4. Einspritz - I buffed up your spreadsheet, see attached. To all: Einspritz did amazing work, you deserve to down load this for electrical issues! - Rob 1970_1972BMW2002TiiWiringCodex.xlsx
  5. Harry - If that gent doesn't come through, I will buy the entire lot, thanks! - Rob rcsteinway@earthlink.net
  6. Einspritz - Wonderful spreadsheet, thanks a bunch. This is better than a wiring diagram! - Rob
  7. VespaGuy - Thanks so much, though I have the ignition switch done to my satisfaction. Is your graphic part of a larger chart? The wiring diagram I'm using is this one: USA '72 tii is here: http://www.2002tii.org/diagrams/bmw2002tii-usa-mod71.pdf Not sure where I got the identification chart for the 90-some things on the chart, but it says at the top "1972 BMW 2002 Tii", so I thought that it might be right, but it's not even close, sadly! - Rob
  8. Hi, Andy - Oh, my, I will have to re-read your post a bunch of times to totally absorb it. Sounds like you have been there, done that enough times. Thank you for your input! I believe I have the ignition switch wired up correctly. If only I could get a piece of paper that lists all the 90-some components, soldering locations, et cetera, with numbers that actually match up with my nice diagram! My list shows that the ignition switch actually is something else entirely. - Rob
  9. I found them, I had them the whole time, duh! In my defense, they weren't painted body color, so I didn't *see* them in my inventory section, they were black. - Rob
  10. Hi, All - After sandblasting everything in and on the car, then painting everything, it seems that two parts have been lost in the shuffle. I need both arms that connect the torque mechanism in the trunk lid to the body. My car is a '72 Tii. The parts book shows two kinds: one with a left and a right, different somehow, and a universal left/right part, all correct for the Tii. I have no idea which is correct for my car. Hopefully someone smarter than I am can chime in on this point. Bonus if you actually have the parts sitting around and want to sell them to me! Thanks. - Rob Trunk arms.pdf
  11. Oh, My - I just realized that I wasn't looking at the ignition switch on the wiring diagram - it was mislabeled! I have found item 44 which has a fat red, a fat green, et cetera. I may be saved! - Rob
  12. Here's an example of lousy wiring documentation: I took out the ignition switch so I could inspect the backside where the wires go. There are 6 places to connect wires (actually 7, but it's one with its neighbor). Markings on the back are 30 (likely for two jumped connectors), P, 15, 50, and R. Now over to the handy dandy wiring diagram. It shows 12 wiring connections, labeled 1-12. ? The wires I need to match up with connectors are: fat green, twin greens to one terminal, fat red, purple, red, black, and gray (seems to go the the wiper control). Now over to the handy wiring diagram. It shows that wires that terminate at the back of the ignition switch are all bi-colored, except for a single green wire. ? Can anyone provide accurate documentation so I can wire up this lovely car? Thanks in advance! - Rob
  13. Fjord - Great idea. Also, there is a one-page chart that numbers around 89 things, wiper motor, cigar lighter, et cetera. The chart I have says that the Tii time switch is the fuse box. Still can't find an accurate table listing the numbers of the components on the electrical diagram! Can anyone help? - Rob
  14. Einspritz and Vespa Guy - I took your advice and went to Kinko's and printed out a 2'x3', so I should be good to go. I wish that the text on the original file weren't so chewed up in places, but I should be able to sort it. Thanks to all! - Rob
  15. Vespa - Thank you for the links. The Tii.org ones are clearly the nicest, though I have to figure out how to print it on a large piece of paper, since I still can't read all the small print. FYI - Prospero's is the one I have where 1/3 of the wires are just wrong. - Rob
  16. J McR - Yeah, thanks, I have been there. I find those are even harder to use: parts of the diagram cut off, parts of the text cut off. If that color one on ebay only was correct, I would be happy! - Rob
  17. Hi, All - When I started restoring my '72 Tii, I knew I would need a good wiring diagram. I found a very nice on on ebay - large format, laminated in plastic. Now that I am using it to solve problems, I am finding probably 1/3 of the connections are wrong. For example, I was wiring up my ignition switch a few days ago. A couple of wires found homes, but I was left with four wires. The wiring diagram showed NONE of the colors of the four remaining wires going to the ignition switch. What? Keep in mind, when I took the steering column apart, I cable tied all the wires together, since I knew the day would come when they would have to go back on the ignition switch, so, these are not just stray wires - they came off the ignition switch nine months ago. Question: Where can I get an accurate '72-'73 Tii wiring diagram? The bogus one I bought said '73-'73 2002 Tii. Well, it's not. Thanks in advance for any leads! - Rob '72 Golf Tii with sunroof

  19. Pending to Hal B. I'll give him a day to come through with payment, then on to the next guy! - Rob
  20. I have this set of new hardware for sale, I went another direction with my suspension (Koni). Note: as far as I know, no US vendor has the fronts in stock, and they have all been out of stock on them for months and months. I got the fronts from the UK, some postage was involved! Anyway, if you want a new set of Bilsteins for your '02, these can be yours for $450., plus postage to you. Estimated cost to replace: $560., plus shipping. Let me know, thanks! - Rob
  21. I am down for the shifter surround, let me know how to pay, thanks! - Rob
  22. Lengrep - Yeah, I would really like to drive a fast-ratio one first before going on a unicorn hunt. The stock box is indeed fine! - Rob
  23. Seller not responding to any followups - hmmm.
  24. Hi - Still got that box? Let me know, thanks! - Rob
