Run, out of curiosity. What did your 121 head measure at?

Ok

What's the measurement height 121 Ti
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Factory thickness on the head is 5.0850-5.0900 min is 5.0630
Mine measured at 5.0610
Does that mean I need an oversize head gasket?
Machine shop is confident that I won't have an issue and pressure tested it a 50psi? If that makes sense?
Feeling a little frustrated after spending $500 on machine work to a head that I'm feeling to happy about. No fault of anyone really just bad luck I guess. Anyone have a 121ti head out there for a reasonable price?

Thanks for the input. I'm looking further into it. Machine shop did pressure test it and it passed. Never the less, I'm taking it back for them to look closer at it.

Hello 2002 owners,
I thought I'd throw a pic out of my recently rebuilt 121ti head for my 2000tilux. I haven't talked to the machine shop yet but it mustn't be to concerning if they let it go out looking like this. I'm guessing the cause of this scarring is from sort of backfiring or overheating??

Wondering if those would work on my 2000tilux?

Wow it's a frenzy in here!

Thanks Tom, I got excited for a sec thinking you found a door stop. I'm focused on the front end and engine right now anyway. I have the early 2000 subframe and i don't want to change up to a 2002 subframe. I'm hoping that the bushings I ordered are the same as the 2002 bushings. I know the right motor mount and rear bushings are different than the 2002 but available none the less.

Here are a couple pics of the subframe with measuring tape. Same as 2002 subframe?

I'm referring to the front subframe btw in my above post. I'm not sure about the rear. I hope they are the same because I melted the old ones out already.

Tom, do you have a pic of the door stop that you purchased? I bought some off a member here a while back but they only work in the 2002 model. The arm is too short for the 2000tilux. Re: bushings. My model is from 67 and as far as I know the bushings are the same as the 2002. I just ordered new ones recently so I'll find out soon enough if they fit.

Peter, I was thinking about getting it black chrome wrapped..jk. I'm keeping it all original. I Still have to do the rear shocks if I want to get it on the road.
Cleaned up the steering box. It's in really good shape so I'm just changing the gaskets add grease and closing it up.

Sorry pics not the best. I like to work in the dark and challenge myself further.

Thought I would share my progress on the 2000tilux. I'm in the midst of reassembling the engine at the same time I decided to drop the front subframe to redo the bushings and sandblast all the parts. I've decided to go with rubber bushings to keep the ride smooth and avoid the risk of annoying squeaking sounds.
New everything! is going into the front end. I don't think I missed anything.
The race to get this on the road for summer is on.
Here are some pics of the work I did last night and today.

Looking for rear seal housing for an 8 bolt crank. I've changed over from a 6 bolt and the housing seal diameter is larger on the 8 bolt.
Image shows an example. One on the right is from a 6 bolt and one on the left is 8 bolt. I need the one on the left if anyone has one they don't need.
Thanks

Peter, if you like I can send them to you no charge and if they work i would probably want $225 for them as they are for a 121ti head. I'd be willing to trade as well if you had something I needed. You will be hard pressed to find the new mahle for 121ti head for under $1000. Very rare and most want upwards of $1300.

Peter, machine shop tells me they are no good but the car ran prior to me pulling it apart. For a garage mechanic I would clean them up re-ring them and they would work fine. Especially if you plan on selling the car. I intend to keep this car and drive it as much as possible. Weather permitting. No way I'll just let it sit in my garage though.

Peter here are a couple pics of the original pistons. Same as the new ones.

Thanks Rick, I'm going to order new timing chain and oil pump chain. I need a seal to fit whatever you call this thing in the picture as well. The seal that came with the gasket kit is larger than the original. I'm Not sure why that is.

Well folks after a lot of efforts put forth by many involved the engine block and head are completely rebuilt. Thanks to Rick who was able to get me a set of mahle pistons and Alec's machine shop for bearing through the all the hicups along the way.
Here is a pic of the block at home now. Time to start the process of putting it together again.

Update...front bushings are all the same as 2002. However, the oil pump chain is a different size on the 67'. I believe it's due to the size of the sprocket. I would have to buy a new oil pump to do the full conversion. Maybe I could just buy the sprocket and tap 3 holes in it to fit?? Anyway I'm going to try and use the old chain and sprocket but I'll need to shim it to get rid of some of the slack. I've attached some images showing the slack on the oil pump chain. My question is....is there any limitation to how many shims I can use?
Another picture shows the difference between the original timing chain guide and the new one I just installed. Notice how the top is squared off and is longer as well.
Replacement of the alternator bushing went well!
