  1. It turns out one of the broken rings scarred the cylinder wall and the other walls are slightly worn. Machine shop recommends new pistons so we have to bore it and move up a size. I'm looking at the 90mm ones from Ireland but machinist is trying to source them locally. Everything else looks good though.

  2. Hello out there. Some of you may already know that I'm in the process of rebuilding my 67' 2000tilux. So far I've stripped the engine down and am currently having some machine work done. I'm probably going to machine some weight off the flywheel as well. Increase intake valve size on the 121 head to match exhaust valve size and add a performance cam.

Now I'm looking at the transmission and rear diff. Currently it has the stock 4 speed and long neck diff. I'm seriously considering the 5 speed conversion and was wondering if anyone has ever done this with a 2000. I know lots of people have done it to the 2002.

I guess I'm wondering if its really worth doing and if I move forward with the project should i be also changing the diff?

I feel the engines performance after the rebuild will overwork or stress the old original transmission and final drive.

As always I appreciate any recommendations or thoughts on the conversation.

  3. Thanks for the feed back guys. I feel better now. Sounds like they are being fair. The engine is out of my 67' 2000tilux and is in very good shape as it only has 150,0000 km on it so it shouldn't need to be bored. It has the stock 9.5:1 pistons. I'm thinking about upgrading the cam with the one that Ireland engineering has. Having said that, I'm not sure what the current/original 121ti cam specs are.

  4. I dropped off my cylinder head and bottom end today at the machine shop to have them both inspected and cleaned. The shop quoted me $1000 for the bottom end work which consists of polishing the crank and re-ringing the pistons. Cleaning and testing for cracks as well. The cylinder head they quoted me $600 to clean amd remove valves, re-seat the valves, testing ect.

The prices quoted were in Canadian dollars but I feel that it's pricey for the work they are doing. Can anyone tell me if this seems right for a refresh job/rebuild job?

I'm thinking about pulling the plug and taking it to another shop before they start working on it.

Any info on ballpark costing to do this type of work is appreciated.

    Thanks

  5. The only thing I was never very fond of was the hubcaps. They are cool to have as the car is still original and therefore my insurance is only 250$ a year. In BC Canada collector plates are available provided the car is original. That includes the radio.

I really don't know what the value of the car is per say. I sold it for 8000$ 20 years ago and bought it back for 12k. Only thing he did was change the gear box. I wish he kept the original one but his mechanic said it couldn't be fixed. All it needed was a new synchro gear for first gear. If that makes any sense. It was hard to get into first at the time. It looks like it now has a gear box out of a 1600.
