  1. I had the same pilot bearing in my 2000ti. I ended up using a peanut butter sandwich to create the hydraulic pressure required to push it out. stuff it with a PB sandwich and pound it in there.

Hmmm, however you are missing a few bearings so it may not of worked after all.

  2. I didn't mean to make it sound like that... but if four of us were interested at $300-$500 each (depending on what we could talk him down to), I'm sure there's a lot of parts that would make it worth it for each of us.  Just throwing it out there.

That sounds like a pretty good idea.

  3. How do you like the ultrasonic cleaner?

I love it. I throw all my nuts and bolts in there. This unit heats the degreaser as well so by the time it's done the threads are spotless and free of any contaminates. I usually clean the bolt heads with a wire brush attachment on my dremel as well after.

  4. These big dust cover I guess you call them came off the front struts when I removed the old original shocks. One of them is completely destroyed and the one in the pic is still intact.

Do I really need them anymore considering he bilstiens come with a protective cover?

  5. you think that's a boat anchor? You should try lifting the side loader! Presume you had to remove the rear rubber mount?

(BTW Chris - NK never got the short neck, went from long neck to side loader)

I thought the long neck was the biggest one?

The girl that's media blasting it for me called it "small" as well. I was a little taken by her comment..I thought it was pretty big.

Yes, I did have to remove the rear mount to get it out.

  6. i suspect that will do. Not sure if Hypoid is different than marine, and if so why.

Just did a bit of research. It's the same thing. They both have additives that allow water to emulsify if it should so happen to get in there. Hence the name "marine oil"

  7. "And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
      He chortled in his joy."

That is definitely quite the beast!  Good work!

Thanks, I used my body like a transmission jack and pulled it out. Im having it media blasted then will change the seals and o-rings to stop the leaking.

  8. Can you still get kits for those things? I forget where I got the o-rings. Not sure if they are the same as dual circuit. Not the same caliper as 1600-2/1602/2002 single circuit.

The O-rings came with the kit. Just got the entire package today. Getting the callipers glass beaded then use a high heat clear on them prior to re-assembly.

  9. #90 hypoid oil, about 600ml I THINK. If you can't find spec, I'll go to garage to look.

Not sure if this stuff qualifies. I'll look for spec on volume. Also, I planned on using cv boot clamps rather than the original hose clamps that came with the car. I can't find narrow hose clamps and the BMW ones are $20 for the large one and $12 for the small one. I Just can't justify that.

  10. I'd hunt down one of those recalled bottles of Sapphire Blue Gin to help with getting the boot on.
I open the big clamp just enough to slide it along the housing and over the ridge. Then use thin washers and ideally a small hex head bolt with lock-nut to keep the weight down.

Be sure to test overnight per my suggestion above.

I found this interesting. The new O-ring I ordered is much thinner than the original. I really didn't like the look of the new one so I opted to use the old o-ring and put a little silicone to create a better seal. Hopefully it holds. I will put grease in it tomorrow and test it.

  11. I could remove the flange but I'm convinced that this shouldn't have to come off. I think this mount is hindering my ability as I need to come straight out and this thing is making me lean the diff downward.
