You're in CA, so perhaps you can be excused, but "Beamer" is so Cali/Yuppie, to me. My story is similar to yours, with me & friends moving from VW products to the 1600s & 2002s in 1978-80. They'll always be Bimmers (what 4-wheeled BMWs were called on the east coast at the time), 2002s, or '02s, to me.
Y’all can call them “Bimmer‘s”, I will never.
This photo was taken back in like 1987/88 of me and my “ex”.
“73”, factory black, factory sunroof, 15” MSW’s rims with 195/50, Fulda tires, Suspension Techniques springs and sway bars, duel Dellorto’s, pop-up piston’s with a mild cam.
I bought it from a lady in 1984, gave up on it in 1989 when I start falling apart, and I wasn’t into you really working on cars back then.
The second photo is what it look like when I first bought it in 1984 ......
Beamer for life..........

I bought my 1st 2002/"Beamer" in 1982. I had two buddy's who also had "02's", two others guys has Bavaria's , one buddy had "79" 7.33, 4-speed car, this is around 1983/84, we all referred to our BMW's as "Beamers", still do to this day. "Bimmer" sounds weird (an I'm being political correct, what I want to say is that it really sound stupid).

Back in the 1960s there was a race rivalry between BMW & BSA. BMWs were called Beemers & BSA were Beezers. During the 1980s when the E30 became "the hotrod of polite society" newly minted young urban professionals or Yuppies called their cars Beamers, some still do.
I call them BMW Motorcycles and BMWs
Beezer has now become synonymous with any BMW CCA membership number below 5,000.
Bob Merman, member #1, passed away February 17, 2019. The memorial service was held February 24th. 4 BMW CCA members attended.
Andrew Wilson, John Whetstone, Micael Izor & Carlos Giron

I've been running the Electromotive "HPV-1" with a 60/2 trigger wheel since 1997

S14 block can run larger pistons, I'm running 94.5mm. The standard M10 block is safe around 90mm

Korman estimated my 2.3 stroker (S14 block and crank, E12 head with 47/39 valves, Weber 45’s, Schrick 304) to be 190-200 crank. Plan to get it on the dyno this summer.
That's sounds about right to the crank

S14 with (4)-44mm round-slide Mikuni motorcycle carbs, I'm 209 to the rear wheels. I never did dyno my M10 when I was running the (4)-36mm round-slide Mikuni motorcycle carbs

Factory green tint from BMW here in the USA, I got one a few weeks back....

I gave up on my last "02" back in 1989. Factory black, sunroof, but it needed work, LOTS, I was done, I ended up giving it to my brother.
I started looking in June of 2013, found an "02" in the Los Angeles area. I broke down in December of 2013, decided it was time to get another, flew down to L.A., drove it home. Soooooo glad I did, it's been a GREAT five plus years, met LOTS a cool enthusiast, learned a TON about working on "02's"..........

Tempting, love to join y'all, but it would add 8-hours and 600-miles to my drive. I have a bad back already, that would be BRUTAL, I'll have to see how I'm feeling at that time.

Any "West Coast" folk heading East for this event? I'm looking for some traveling partners. My plan is to do around 600-miles per day.......
I'm leaving the Monterey Peninsula on Monday April 22nd around 7:am, 1st stop is Flagstaff, Az.
2nd stop is Amarillo, Tx. on Tuesday,
Fayetteville, Ar. on Wednesday to pick-up my Wife at the airport and spending the night there.

LOL! CARBS...barely controlled fuel leaks....
I have almost 27,000-miles with my set up, I’ve only been on a flatbed one time, that was because I broke the rear end.
You show me someone else out there who has that many miles on there S14 powered “02”, an as trouble free as mine?
Chuckle all you want.....

All the reasons I dumped the ECU, fuel injection and the distributor and went with carbs and Electromotive crank trigger ignition, it's WAY easier for me to diagnose issues with my S14.........

Had a custom built E21 case/318ti LSD delivered to me this morning, it took less than two hours to swap it out by myself. That was the 5th differant rear end that I’ve installed in my “02”.
This was the 1st time I felt comfortable rollin on the gas really hard, confident that I was not gonna pop the rear end. I logged a TON of miles, just kinda babying it for the last fifteen months, so I would not distroy another rear end.
My buddy Kaelin who built the rear end for me, he was quite impressed, today was the 1st time he was in my car........

Doug, I applied my stick on trim and then sealed the holes from the inside using a scrape of white seam sealant in each case and where accessible. Should I ever decide to go back to aluminium trim, the holes can be easily poked clear of sealant so no harm done.
Hmmmmm....... That's a GREAT idea. Thanks for the tip..................... Salute'

If you're not a purist, the 3M sticky-backed PVC chrome trim looks astonishingly good when carefully applied and of course is dirt cheap. Won't help with any judging, so true restorationists please ignore, but if all you want is good looks with not dents/dings/scratches on a budget, this is really a great alternative. I think I used the 12mm wide one which is just a tad narrower than the stock aluminum trim. Mine is even pushing 10 years old now. . .
I have a buddy that bought a 76, he did not know that he had the peel and stick trim, I pointed it out to him. I'm torn on what to do when it's time to paint, peel and stick, or find replacement stuff. Cuz every one of my pieces has damage. I think a few may be able to bang out, some are just toast.......
