  3. The motor I am running has high oil pressure when cold, a slight rev, the oil pressure is in the 100 to 120psi range. My S14 is very cold blooded, but once the motor is warm, it's around 72psi at speed.

So let the motor warm up, and make sure you run a "high pressure" oil filter, I like the K & N "HP 1002"

I'm using a set of 4 40mm Mikuni round slides that are attached to each other and use a throttle rod to operate all 4 with 1 throttle cable. It isn't making it any easier on the fabrication process but hopefully it will make Tuning them easier.

I'm glad to see that you drive your awesome car so Much. Hopefully I'll get to see it again when there's another local gathering.

What series Mikuni's are you running, I'm running the "VM's?

  5. I started off with the Lynx manifold with (2) 38mm Keihin flat-slide motorcycle carbs that were hogged out to 40mm, I could not get the car to run very well.

Then I installed (2) 36mm Mikuni round-slide motorcycle carbs, still was not happy with the performance.

I sh*t canned the Lynx intake, installed the Cannon intake manifolds with (4) 36mm Mikuni round-slides, I ran the for a couple of years until I did the S14 swap with the (4) 44mm Mikuni round-slides.

Just under 64,000-miles since doing the S14 swap with the motorcycle carbs.

  6. With a tick over 60,000-miles since installing the S14 back in December of 2017, some of the vacuum lines for the pollution control valve system were leaking, and the rubber manifold boots that I use to mate the Mikuni motorcycle carburetors to the M10 intake manifold we’re starting to crack, I started chasing vacuum leaks this past month.

I also accidentally disconnected my wide band o2 sensor about 99-miles deep into my 335-mile NoCal to SoCal caravan drive this past Friday, had to put re-calibrating as part of my checklist of things that need to be done.

I took Hwy 1 home from San Luis Obispo to the Monterey Peninsula after the SoCal Vintage gathering this past Saturday. I stopped off at my buddies hotel in San Simeon to say hello and re-sync the carburetors, that’s when I discovered one rubber manifold boot was sucking in a little bit of air, it was time to swap them out.

I also wanted to replace the four throttle cables, sense a couple of them were kinked from me resting my arm on them when messing with the motor.

All back together, just in time for the last call BMW Golden Gate Chapter “driving tour” for 2021.

  7. The 1st two photos are from around 1982, the year I purchased my first "2002", a "69" from a guy in Carmel, CA.

The third photo is from 1984, I bought this "73" from a lady down in Los Angeles. By the end of 1985, I took the motor out of the "69", and put it in the "73". My brother installed 40mm dual Dellortos, I installed the Suspension Technics springs and sway-bars, and 15" MSW rims with Fulda tires. We took the Stahl header and the remaining exhaust from the "69" to complete the motor swap.

The fourth and fifth photos are from around 1985-86, the 6th photo was taken in 1987, about the time I got married. The lady next to me is my kids Mom.

  8. Replaced the wide band o2 sensor for the 5th time since installing the S14, the last one was on the 17th of April this year, 8352-miles before it failed on my trip down Hwy 1 to San Simeon/Hearst castle this past Saturday.49920A14-D8BC-4155-BEC9-EBEED6EC87B4.jpeg

I also repaired two cracks in my Zender spoiler and re-painted it.

So I finally got my Wideband setup and have been trying to fine tune my Weber 32/36 but I’m having trouble finding information on what passages are active at what throttle positions.

I’m used to tuning motorcycle carbs and there is a popular graph that shows which jets/passages are active during different throttle positions.

Does something like that exist for the Weber 32/36?

I’ll preface by saying I’ve already gone through and verified my ignition timing at all RPMs and have gone through the Weber tuning guide to get the car running pretty well.

Currently my best idle is 2 turns out at 12.5 AFR.

My cruising AFR at 1/4 throttle is pretty rich at 12.5.

Part throttle acceleration is also around high 12’s.
However WOT at high rpm is 14.5-15.

How do I lean out my partial throttle range and richen up at full throttle?

What motorcycle carbs were you tuning on? I'm running 44mm Mikuni VM series on my S14.

  10. Who's attending tomorrow?

Meeting at Roberts Lake in Seaside to grab a burrito at 6:30 before we head over to “Legends”. Roach Coach parks there, I get burritos all the time from Martha.

The fairgrounds is a mile and a half from where we’re meeting at by the lake.

The purple mark on the photo is where we will be.
