  1. Thanks for the heads-up, I’ll look into it, was not aware of any closers.

If that is the case, I have another backroad route planned, but it will not include Hwy 1 from Nacimiento-Fergusson.

Instead of going South on Jolon Road towards Hunting Liggett, we will take Jolon Road North towards King City to Metz Road, then over to Carmel Valley Road, or River Road to Hwy 1.

  2. "Rona" run to Hwy 1; Meeting in Hollister at 9:am this Sunday, rolling at 9:30.

Hwy 25 South to Hwy 198, Hwy 198 West, 198 turns into San Lucas Road, left on Jolon Road, right onto Mission Road, Mission Road turns into Nacimiento-Fergusson Road toward Hwy 1. Hwy 1 North to Pacific Grove for a nice cruise along Asilomar Beach.

  3. Replace the throttle cable from the foot box to the plunger, and two of the cables from the plunger to the carbs (the last photo is of the two were bent from binding on the hood before I cut a window in it).

I put some shrink tube on where the cable from the foot box goes into the plunger, that’s what broke, thus causing me to having an replace it (photo #5)

Re-synched the carbs, took it for a test drive, ready to roll this Saturday for the “Neue Klasse” in Los Gatos.

In high school (late 80’s) I was driving a ‘83 VW GTI that I was slowly modifying with my hard earned pizza delivery money...Neuspeed!  My older brother had the stock ‘74 2002 and was driving into the ground while attending Chico St.  I traded cars with my brother, who in short order basically destroyed the GTI :(  I began to clean up the 2002, add some fun modifications, and drove it for a few years daily until I couldn’t get it smog’d (dual Weber’s at the time).  Kept the car for the next 30 years and still enjoy working on it and cruising around with some track days mixed in.

It was nice with the smog exempts stuff was raised from 1973 to 1975 in California

  6. I turned 16 in 1978, my first car was a Vega wagon with 8 inch wide five slot mags.

From age 16, to age 20, I owned 15 different cars.

I picked up my first “02” in 1982, it was a 1969, I bought it from a guy in Carmel, California.

I bought a black 1973 “02” from a lady down in Los Angeles back in 1984.

I got the van my senior year of high school, later that that year, I got the burgundy Vega, it had a balanced small block Chevy in it.

The two cars that I don’t have photos of is the four-door Land Cruiser, and the 57 Chevy.

The two cars that were never driven, the 66 Chevelle, and the 57 Chevy.

Around 1985, I ended up putting on 15” MSW rims with Fulda tires, duel Dellorto carbs , suspension techniques springs and sway bars on the black “02”.

I gave the 1973 “02” to my brother back in 1989, I didn’t get another ”02” until December of 2013.
