  1. no offense taken, I agree with most of that. The lower edge that sticks out actually looks pretty good when not over emphasized by the camera angle (but this one needs to be finished on the sides). I like the idea of trim rings that would really pop & have been thinking about a way to come up with that, for now I went ahead and rounded off the edges a bit which definitely helped. This demo was done with a oil rub finish, but you're right, its such a small piece of wood it needs to pop a bit more. I think we will try more of a stain and finish that can match both the light and dark Nardi wheels.... One other issue I've noticed since posting is that with my lights on you can see a little light around the gauge rings hmmm... thinking about a work around there as well.
  2. could you give me some information on what hub to look for when looking for a Nardi wheel and where to get the bmw horn button?
  3. Hey folks... so I've never really cared much for the fake-wood-plastic dash face of the 75-76's and decided I wanted to do something a little special. My brother is an wood worker and makes a lot of danish modern furniture. So I gave him specs to create a real wood dash face. It turned out pretty nice... If any of you are interested, & we had enough orders, we could probably do a batch for around $70 each. The panels are made with an oil rubbed, redwood veneer, with a rabbit cut out on the back to install glass. You need to remove your existing plastic panel and glass gauge covers. The new panel attaches to the plastic face underneath with thin velcro. shoot me an email here if you'd like to have us make you one.

  12. Thanks for the word. Will report back next weekend after another saturday on the car. >crank the motor over with a like-new battery got it - no battery when i bought it so it has a new one now. >DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE IT HOLDS COOLENT PRESSURE, drove once at night after purchase - heat built up after 5 minutes, pulled over let it cool down added water, drove another 5 minutes back to garage, it heated up again but not as fast. >DOES NOT LEAK GAS, so far seems good there, no smells. >WHEELS ARE FREE TO TURN, yep all good there. >BRAKES SET ON AND RELEASE FULLY. seem solid. >INSPECT FOR ANY LOOSE GROUND/POSITIVE WIRING doing this now.
  13. hey folks. ive got some newbie questions (ive had my 76 2002 for years but just now learning to work on it). i inherited a second 76 which im learning to restore and ive only driven it for like 10 minutes but it heated up on me really fast. prior to turning the car over i added fluids especially coolant which seemed to be nonexistent and noticed that some of the new fluid hit the floor on start up which makes me wonder if the water pump is leaking. The car was sitting in a garage for many years before I purchased it. What are the best ways to diagnose an overheating problem? Also regardless of pump since the car sat so long i should probably drain the block and radiator yes? Where are the drain plugs located to do so and it what order should you attempt to make less mess? Lastly... I spent some time taking off a lot of smog stuff yesterday since I'm in washington and its not necessary (I swear it took like a hundred pounds off the car - is going to use less gas - and is now probably better for the environment). Is it advised to hold on to the pump and other items just in case the laws change - or do you think us washingtonians are safe to offer up our smog goods to help out california?
  14. actually I just checked and I do have some left over. See photos... most of the beltline trim is dinged but better nothing and it might be repairable with some patience. One very good rear piece, some roundie trim for the tail lights. The rest is interior... (oil pressure gauge, glove box, rear view mirror, side mirror, cotton car cover, fuse bay, steering console trim, lap belts) rd

  17. this is for a daily drive to slow down rust (mostly surface) that is hard to reach like the inside of a door... i notice the marine industry makes a lot of stuff for boats. Any advice on which product to use??
  18. yeah i was always curious why late models had such floor pan problems. the rust on this one is totally surface but my other 76 is shot. But the sealer theory makes sense. I will definitely take the advice so far and strip the floor to make sure this one lasts. I saw a good trick about dry ice to get that stuff off.
  19. As luck would have it. I have inherited (from an amazing ebay purchase) my second 02, another '76 charmingly named Oscar. I was looking for a body donor for my daily drive when a friend from the FAQ directed me to a low ebay auction in Oregon. I bid and won at the last minute, then towed it from Salem to Seattle. The previous PO had started stripping the car for paint then grew tired and wanted to get it out of his garage. As far as I can tell this car is practically rust free with a no crack dash (i had forgotten what they looked like)! I was only looking for a donor body - but got a whole car in the process. The only thing missing is a fuel pump and battery. So I am going through the process of inventory and pulling up carpet for paint prep. I thought Id give ya a few pics and pose my first couple of questions. 1. I noticed that this 76 is different than my other 76. The grab handles are by the door - not in the ceiling (which i kinda liked better). Also the door latch hardware in the jam is different. Anyone got info on basic changes made mid year in 76? I am curious. 2. On paint prep - how vital is it to take out all the floor sound proofing? Ive included some pics but basically the drivers pan has some surface rust & the black stuff peeled right off. I don't see any signs of rust on the other floors and the black stuff is on pretty good. Is it best to take up all the black sound proofing and brown boarding anyway? 3. I plan to pressure wash the bottom of the car then "Por 15" both sides of the floor. Do you guys recommend covering the floor w/ "Por 15" or just in spots that may have some rust? Also is there any kind of "spray" that does the same thing for inside doors and such? 4. Once the Por 15 is done I will redirect the sunroof hoses, fix the sunroof & fire her up to see what my engine and tranny are like. Then paint it the same anthracite gray. Do any of you in Seattle have a strong recommendation of a good place to have it painted? 5. I also a general question on seat changes. Did stock 02 seats change much from the 70's to 76?
  20. what about those repair kits... do any of them work?
  21. Dash sold (pending payment). I'll let you know if anything goes goofy with the sale. -rd
