  10. thanks mike - my car is a 76. The tip on the fuses (no pun) is hopeful - I am going to check that out because it does act like a fuse problem. I had check the middle of the fuse and also made sure they were not too loose but I hadn't thought to check the tips. a ground issue might make sense too. I had actually swapped out my turn signals a while back and I know they have some pretty sensitive ground issues on the screw that keeps the unit in... I wonder if maybe a ground issue there is affecting the overall system. any thoughts on this burn smell I am experiencing (I turned the heater off as I thought maybe that was the culpret but it still occurs from time to time). -rd
  11. that would seem less likely as the relay is only a year old.
  12. Hey folks hope you all had a good holiday. I am having some problems with intermittent flashers and wipers on my 1976 daily drive - Sometimes its a matter of restarting the car and they both come back on. I checked the fuse and cleaned the metal tabs but they seem fine. I also smell a slight rubber or plastic burn from the inside of the car. The car hasn't had any recent changes except for snow tires, the flasher relay was retrofitted to electronic a year ago using faq instructions here: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,327521/highlight,electronic+flasher/ thoughts???
  13. Ouch! Your post is breaking my heart... Not sure what your best option is as I haven't been through that but it seems you have put so much care and pride into your car its worth you staying in it. I liked the suggestion of getting an engine to put in and then having the time to rework or explore your own over time. hope things start to feel better soon, -rd
  14. hey Travis did you ever get that clear rear windshield? Id still like to help you out with that. I might be up for a partial trade if you want. Feel free to email me at rdeeble@yahoo.com robert
  15. Hey Ryan I notice in your pic that you have some sort of aftermarket gauge ring on your speedometer. Curious where you got that? -rd
  16. Hey list (Curt I hope you are reading). I just read the news... this sucks. Curt interacted with me early on when I new to this list. I had decided to take out my odometer with morbid curiosity to see how it worked or rather why it had never worked. Naturally I didn't know what I was doing. After making a mess I posted something on the FAQ and Curt emailed me to help out. I found myself over the next week being coached step by step by Curt over email. He seemed to take pleasure in seeing me succeed and bringing the the ol thing back to life. I have never been mechanically inclined and my wife and house mates thought I had lost my mind tinkering each night like an ol watchmaker on the thing. In the end, after million emails, Curt and I celebrated success with a totally working console. There is something really satisfying about tackling a mechanical problem. Curt your mentorship really made me feel welcome to the FAQ and reminded me of something a little more important than german engineering... patience, friendship and helping out a neighbor. Thanks Curt, rest up - I am with you in prayer. Robert
  17. I got it for you! I least I think I do... are the years different for rear glass?? I have a early model non defrost glass I am looking to sell for whatever is reasonable. Out of curiosity does your rear glass work? oh and I am in Seattle -rd

  19. This is the end of where the manifold exhaust goes to all the smog stuff (which I took off) I just need to find a end cap with the right metric thread to cap it off (the one in the picture was welded). My local nut and screw dealer didn't have anything big enough in a metric thread.
  20. Driving down to my mechanic w/a 12 pack to thank him for recharging a batter and WHAMO my stick shift starts slamming to the right. Got to the garage and my mechanic took a peek and looks like i busted my subframe. anyone in the Seattle area have one I can buy off them? Nothing fancy just need it for my daily drive. robert (at yahoo dot com)
  21. well its been like forever but... i finally got back in the garage to solve my de-smog wiring problem (had the solenoid connected on the wrong terminal & poor connection on the battery) and re-explore my cooling problem. For the cooling mystery I did a radiator pressure test. Gave it 20 lbs of pressure with plenty of water in the radiator. Result... no leaks, not even the water pump or heater valve. I had some minor leakage at the upper radiator hose but it just needed to be tightened down a little (I don't think it would of caused the car to get low on fluid and overheat). So where to now??? I am guessing swap the the thermostat and see if it overheats again? Thoughts??
  22. Hi there sorry for the slow response. Yes the carpet is still available. Shoot me an email at rdeeble@yahoo.com to come by and get it. Thanks, rd
  23. solved. battery + & - wasn't making good enough contact.... go figure I had it right after all... - rd
  24. Anyone want a used one piece tan carpet? I took it out of my car to do some body work. It came out in one piece without any major tears. I gave it a quick wash at the car wash so its clean, but sunfaded... Maybe its worth hitting it with some die??? Anyway, if anyone wants I can sell it for the cost of shipping and handling. Otherwise I'll toss it. -rd
