  1. Decided to solve that in a somewhat (understatement) redneck sort of way. Just took a metal strip about 0.16 thick and 1.5 wide and cut them to about the right length. Then drilled a 0.32 hole on each end, mounted them on the stock bearing support, attached the e30 bearing on the other end and fiddled a bit until the driveshaft appeared to be reasonably straight. There's still some flex this way, so I try to avoid hard launches, but apart from that it receives a lot of abuse (110mph for 60-70mi, spirited driving and so on) Guibo and bearing are still fine after some 1500-2000mi, so it's fine by me. I should make another support strip to fix the whole assembly to the floor, but that's for another time.
  2. I decided to cut the top part of the tunnel, had to take my interior out to fix a few holes in the floor anyway. Just make a few cuts, widen the tunnel a bit, cut some metal strips and weld it back together, quite simple, 2-3 hours of work. Try not to cut through your rear brakeline though, I managed to make a nice clean textbook cut straight through, it ran a bit higher in the tunnel than I thought... Plenty of room (well, for an 02) for the box. Just had to bash it out a bit around the clutch slave cylinder. You do have to trim the center console a bit, but it isn't really noticable.
  3. I've used an E30 M10 manual driveshaft with the 240 5-speed gearbox from an E30. I believe the 245 5-speed is about 1-2 inches longer, and my driveshaft is stretched to about it's maximum length, sliding it back a bit shouldn't be a problem (it's able to slide some 4-5 inches iirc, varying the lenght from 60 to about 65 inches) The guibo should fit as long as it's the 6 bolt version. And the center bearing has to be moved to the back. And be careful if you loosen the nut that locks the sliding section, because the driveshaft can fall apart (don't ask...)
  4. The E30 version of the 240 is about 19inch from the bellhousing to the outer end of the flange and the guibo is about 0.4inch shorter The total driveshaft length should be around 61-61.5inch (not 100% sure though) I took the 'easy' way out and installed a E30 driveshaft, it fits, has a sliding section (so it's the right length no matter what) and it has one of it's u-joints in front of the center bearing. Which, apparently, keeps your guibo alive even if the driveshaft isn't 100% straight (at least mine is still fine after 2000mi) You only have to relocate the center bearing a bit (about 6-8 inches to the rear). I used one from a 318i M10, the 6-cylinder ones are too long and I'm not sure about the M42 ones.
  5. If you're able to understand German (because it's near impossible to find with subtitles) Manta Manta is actually quite entertaining. Not an 02 related movie, but still fun.
  6. You should be able to remove just the wood part, but it's held in place with tabs. I had to remove the gauge cluster, remove the speedo etc to be able to push it out from the inside. Then painted it flat black and put it together (although its black under the wood, so technically you could get away with just removing the wood, but I liked it better this way)
  7. Got some decent (by our standards) snow here last week for the first time in 5 years or so. Had a lot of fun, other drivers tend to keep their distance if they see your car going sideways everywhere :-) Small pic of my own car (don't give your cam to someone who doesn't know how it works, I ended up with one useful one) And I kinda liked this one. Which I made, so the guy in the E12 (M30B35 and LSD, so it's quite fast) ended up with 100+ pics of him having fun
  8. On euro cars it actually serves as an indicator to the e-brake, manual choke and as a low fuel warning. As far as I know only the 1502 came with a brake fluid warning light over here.
  9. I've used E21/E30 rear discs, they only need a small spacerring to center them on the hub (instead of turning down your hubs). The bracket is a bit more work because you have to weld it to your trailing arm, although the basic shape couldn't be easier, they only took me about 5 minutes a piece with an angle grinder. The calipers are from an 87 rabbit GTI, but any VW calliper with an integrated e-brake should fit. You do have to take them off if you want to bleed them, but that's once or twice a year, so it's not that big a deal. Few pics here (achterschijven = rear discs, remschijven = discs, remklauwadapter = caliper bracket, remmen = brakes, small course in dutch )
  10. Could be a Euro E23 745i piston, which does have a turbo engine. Here's a direct link to it's dimensions (according to mahle) Mahle catalog
  11. Novel, yes Desirable, no The correct spelling is Deutschland btw And the event was held in The Netherlands (Or Nederland in Dutch), if you call a dutchman a german you might piss him off a bit ;-) Here are a few onboard videos from my own car, don't mind the rattling, the cam mount wasn't that sturdy. They're more of the same so don't bother watching all of them, just #4 and a random other one. 4th attempt, tiny steering error 5th attempt, more or less the same as 1,2,3 and 6 It's the black car on the first pic on page 5, and a few more on the track.
  12. Around $5.90/gallon over here and that's about as low as it has ever been since the euro came along (joy...) Until a few weeks ago it was over 8$/gallon. Luckily my 02 doesn't need it (LPG hovers around $2/gallon) and my bike does 36-40mpg.
  13. Jenvey in the UK sells DCOE throttle bodies. No experience with them, just remembered their site.
  14. There's a 320/4 over here, a 320/6 and a 320i/4, the 320/6 was never offered with fuel injection. iirc the change from 4 to 6 cylinders occured around 77/78, although I believe the 320i was offered alongside the 320/6 (but the 320/6 is the more common, and slower, version of the 2) All standard with a 4-speed and without a LSD/recaro's and all other sorts of goodies. And then there's the 315/316/318/318i and 323i (also with a 4-speed standard). And also some Baur convertibles (and a 315 baur is apparently rarer than a 323i baur....). Every fuel injected E21 is a k-jet btw, the l-jet wasn't offered until the E30. I think that covers about all of the european E21 versions.
  15. Main body dia: 1.5" Bottom part dia: 1.44" which is 1.5" long Total length: 17.6" Some old monroe insert, 99,9% sure it's from an 02. Only other option would be an E30 shock, but they're only a bit (0.1" or so) shorter, diameter should be the same.
  16. So you're using an unmodified 318i M10 driveshaft with the Getrag 240 5-speed from the E30 in an 02 ? If your answer is yes you've just made me the happiest guy on earth.
  17. On the autobahn its measured at 90mph, so that would explain why it's quite thirsty. At 60-70mph constant speed they should be able to get 25mpg quite easily (my bone stock 1602 used to get about 30mpg at 60mph, which dropped to 19-20 in a city). Nice vids btw, and I'm able to understand most of it, although they're not saying anything I didn't know.
