  1. I found similar war scars on a beater 76 parts car I picked up. PO knew the center support bearing was shot, but drove the car anyway (which, at the time hadn't been registered for over a year... with out of state plates). Bearing seized and broke free from the tunnel mounts, leaving the drive shaft to do all kinds of transmission damage. Nice. By the way, it never occurred to me to make jewelry out of the remaining guibo sleeves. I'm sure my girlfriend would've really appreciated the sentiment ;-)
  2. I have a buddy who just cracked the front of his transmission case with a loose guibo bolt, so yeah... good thing to check. Also good to learn vicariously through the mistakes of others ;-)
  3. If it is, they replaced the 'is' steering wheel... so probably not. If the tranny's good and the engine is decent, it would be a fun megasquirt/turbo donor...
  4. I'll take the door cards and arm rests ;-) Oh wait. No parting out... ha!
  5. I have a pair from a '76 I'd be happy to part with... I'm in San Diego, so shipping's probably not too bad... let me know! Matt
  6. I'll see your $82 and raise you a nickel, a dime, some pocket lint and a few buttons I found in the bottom of my hamper. Oh wait... it sold already.
  7. Thanks Les! I modified accordingly. And I guess it's a money saver, although I have to think they'd be lucky to have squeezed out a few thousand dollars across every 02 they built with these panels... every penny counts I guess.
  8. For sale is a pair of tan headrests. I started cleaning the one on the left which looked identical to the one on the right when I began... as you can see, they clean up rather nicely and I couldn've gone farther with the one I did clean (since they're not mine, I'm not all that motivated to put in the elbow grease...). With the exception of one very small crack, the vinyl on these rests is in very good shape. The chrome is pitted in some areas, although I'm quite sure that most, if not all of the discoloration can be cleaned up with some metal polish. $40 plus shipping. If you have questions or need to see additional pics, let me know and I'll help however I can. Thanks!
  9. For sale is a full set of blue interior panels (door cards and rear panels). Vinyl is in excellent condition all around. Chrome has one or two small blemishes, but is otherwise in great shape. Front panels have not been cut for speakers, have really nice chrome and provided you can reuse your old top (window) strip for the driver's door (I don't have one for this set), they can be used as is, although it wouldn't hurt to replace the backer boards (see pics). Rear panels are in great shape, although one of the ashtrays is missing. Backer boards are in really good shape (see pics). $110 plus shipping. Let me know if you have questions or would like to see additional pics. Thanks!
  10. If you're looking at a solid roller (ie: minimal/superficial rust and not completely ravaged otherwise), then I think $1500 is reasonable for a tii... also depends on what your goals are. If you're looking to build something of your own (ie: not looking to do a complete OEM resto) and either (a) aren't on a budget or ( will be doing much of the work yourself, then this might be the ticket for you. If, on the other hand, you're looking at any real rust issues (towers, floors, rockers, etc), are not mechanically inclined or don't have the money to pay someone else, then I'd say to keep looking... you can find a pretty decent complete non-tii for that kind of money and you won't have to go through the effort of finding an engine (a tii long block can easily set you back $1500+, depending on condition). My $.02.
  11. Not quite, but thank you! To clarify, I'm trying to get the ratcheting mechanism that keeps the back in position to engage (right now it just flops back with any pressure... funny, but not particularly practical). Long story short, there's teeth for the ratchet on both sides (where the back and bottom come together) and a bar that connects the handle that controls the back position (near the right thigh) to these ratcheting mechanisms. I was missing the bar completely, but got the hardware I need from a junk seat. Now I just need to figure out how to get everything to play well together again...
  12. A friend of mine mentioned to me that there is a seat rebuild thread somewhere on the forum, but after a few 20-30 minute attempts, I wasn't able to turn anything up... does anyone know of such a DIY? I've been told that the way the ratcheting mechanism engages is somewhat counter-intuitive and I'd like to see some pics and such to help get my head around it before I go ripping everything apart. Thanks!
  13. My neighbor is big into drag and has been running a welded spider gear successfully for years. I have a extra non-LSD from a parts car that should be a 3.91 since it's from a '76, and since he's done it before, I'm tempted to open it up and have him weld it up. That said, is anyone running a welded spider gear? If so, are there any drawbacks if it's done properly (ie: lots of material added and probably some additional metal plates for reinforcement)? Just curious what people with experience in the matter have to say. Thanks!
  14. I have 2 back seat sets (2 bottoms and 2 backs) that are good for cores only. If you're interested (perhaps you're an upholsterer?), you can have both sets for $30 obo. If you'd rather trade, I'm quite sure I need parts although I'm drawing a blank wrt to specifics at the moment... let me know if you'd like to take that route and I'll turn my brain on for long enough to figure out what I need. Thanks!

Still looking? If so, shoot me an e-mail and I'll show you what I have. Thanks! Matt
  16. Sorry, no console... Busted A/C unit though :-)
  17. Steiny (very nice guy, by the way) just came by and picked up the distributor, driver's door (minus glass), ignition and coil... everything else is still officially up for grabs!
  18. union76 - wanted to let you know that I just re-inspected the quarter panel and noticed that there's a pretty significant rust spot right behind the wheel. I'll upload pictures once I get back out there and take them. The upside is that the trim would cover it, so you wouldn't need to do a professional repair job necessarily, but I thought I'd let you know before you get too far in your shipping inquiries.
  19. First, I want to mention that this car came with a Tii distributor. It looks like it could use some love, but it's up for grabs if someone wants it (I already have one). I also have a working alternator I won't be using... T_Bone - e-mail sent Collin (mesapioneer) - I might have a shift surround somewhere, but not from this car. I'll take a look and get back to you. As for the bulkhead... no dice. I was hoping this car had a good one since my '75 has similar PO markings (I always assumed it was for drugs or something since mine still has a flap, but I suppose surfing is a pretty reasonable explanation too...), but unfortunately this car has a big gaping hole where the metal is supposed to be as well... Thomas (TMK_74_2002A) - these seats don't have chrome rings, but black plastic. If you still want them, let me know, but unfortunately they're not the bright shiny pieces you're probably looking for. jrhone - fuel gauge works, leveling sensor is yours... make me an offer (mcdibo@gmail.com)
  20. I really appreciate all the advice! I'm on my way out right now to take a bunch of pics of the engine bay, drain some fluids and begin disconnecting everything. Agreed on the nitrile gloves... they're great! Unfortunately I have 2 boxes of the crappy blue gloves right now... can't complain since they were free, but they seem to rip if you scratch your ass the wrong way... oh well. The hoist is actually my neighbor's and as my car is conveniently in his backyard right now (where it will stay until it goes to scrap... I have a good neighbor :-), I have pretty unfettered use of it, so I'll probably hoist it out. He's also planning on putting a 2 lift garage back there in the not-too-distant future, so I'm going to hold off on making any big lift/hoist purchases for the time being... ha! Anyway, if I have any issues, I'll be back. Otherwise I'll post some pics when I'm done. Thanks again! PS - just put up an ad parting out the car... let me know if you need anything. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/p,628791/#628791
  21. If you can figure out the logistics and it's a good deal for both of us, I have no problem with that... I have a sense that shipping a fender might be a sketchy and expensive endeavor though. Let me know.
  22. I have a 1976 BMW 2002 I bought for parts last week and I will be dismantling it over the next few weeks. I am keeping the engine and some other odds and ends, but otherwise the car's up for grabs. A quick breakdown of what's usable (most of the car is junk): Good doors... passenger side has a tiny bit of rust on the bottom front corner, but otherwise they're in good shape Tinted/uncrackable Glass (tint is in great shape!)... Missing the drivers side vent window, but otherwise in great shape! 4sp Transmission - seems to work fine, but I didn't spend much time behind the wheel. Various engine bits and pieces Good 14" steel wheels with newer tires Suspension bits are all fine... might be a good way for someone to build up a race suspension while the car's still on the road Interior is pretty shot, but you may be able to use the seats for cores and reupholster. Car had AC and as far as I can tell, most of the pieces are still there... I doubt it works at the moment, but it could be used for parts. The trunk floor/wheel well appears to be in pretty good shape and I'm sure there are some other body pieces that could be re-used. Anything else... just ask I'll also be selling the engine out of my '75 in the not-too-distant future... it has a leaky head gasket (not a massive failure - I got it off the road promptly after it started acting up), but would be a prime candidate for a rebuild since it already has the E12 head. Any questions or image requests, let me know and I'll do whatever I can to help... Thanks!
