  1. Bill, do you mind sharing how much you ended up paying including shipping, etc? I'm in Parksville so I'm hoping it'll be comparable. Have you installed the fenders? Did they only need the gentle tap you were anticipating?
  2. Interested depending on cost, shape, etc. I'm in Parksville.
  3. Pardon me for hijacking but I'm in a similar situation and would love to see photos of your process. While I'm piping in, is this an appropriate point to ask if this job needs any of the bracing that I see across the door gaps and through the interior?
  4. I used Armour All's original cleaning wipes. Just kept on going through them until they didn't discolour anymore. Worked great.
  5. Mine does the same thing - 72 untouched as well. Not having much experience with working on transmissions, I took it to the shop. The mechanic took it for a 10-min spin with me and said that the sound is caused by the gears getting pitted with age. He said it isn't really a mechanical problem to worry about, just annoying. Now he could have been full of sh*& but you'd think he try to grab some money out of my wallet if he had the chance?
  6. Do the satin black with Alpina flares!
  7. If it was Richmond, BC, I'd be there in a flash!
  8. This might sound stupid, but what have you tried to get it started since the rebuild?
  9. Aren't 99% of 02s rustbuckets until repaired?! I'm with PatAllen. It really depends on what you want out of the car. I bought my 72 from the original owner/family in Pitt Meadows. Dad was a Dr. at UBC - still has parking sticker from 73. There is rust to be repaired but only the driver rocker that's a really big deal (so far...). Sounds like you won't have much trouble parting out. Let me know if you decide to go that way - might even take the whole thing off your hands.
  10. Wet traction doesn't seem to be too much of an issue even though I need a new set of shoes 'er gumboots for the Vancouver Island winter deluge. I plan on driving my 02 rain or shine even after the body work - life's too short.
  11. What's the address for the BC 02 Board?
  12. Mind sharing the info with me too? I'm in Parksville looking to do a similar job to my 72 this winter. Thanks, Blain
  13. The "new" Armourall cleaning wipes did the trick on mine. Worked great because you can scrub until the wipe turns colour, toss, and keep going until the wipes stay white. Be prepared to go through a bunch though. No residue or odour to speak of.
  14. It may be because I live in Parksville where lots of seniors live but I get thumbs up from other BMW drivers. Lots of recognition and admiration across the board despite my car needing plenty of work. I just bought my 02 a month or so ago from a family in Maple Ridge. Other than one I saw on the ferry a couple years ago, I haven't seen another on the Island or Lower Mainland in person. Seem to be super rare here.
