  1. I have owned my 2002 since March and I have been working out the issues ever since. One particular problem is the tach. It doesnt like to work in the cold and only the cold. In the summer, it always worked, but if its cold out, like now, it doesnt work. Sometimes, after about ten minutes of driving, it might kick on. Also, if i hit the top of the instrument cluster wih my hand while running, the needle will jump up and fall back to zero. I have been going through the wiring and found a bad connection which I repaired yesterday. But this morning, the tach only seemed to be working at 50%. If I was at (based on engine sound) around 3000 rpm, the tach would only register 1500 rpm. At idle, it says 0 rpm. Any Ideas?
  2. With stock seats in my '71 2002, my 6'7" Dad fit just fine. Changing the seats may change it for worse or for better. As long as the seat's ability to slide back and forth is retained, you should be ok. Also, a friend of mine has an E30 and I think I have more head and leg room in my 2002.
  3. What kind of exhaust manifold is that? Is does not look factory. It almost seems like a shorty header.

  5. I had an exhaust leak about two months ago at the number four exhaust outlet. It was leaking where the manifold met the head and made this noisy ticking. Once I figured it out, just a set of new manifold gaskets and I was good to go.
  6. For the exhaust, sounds like you have a leak, most likely around where the manifold meets the head. You will have to check all the connection points and make sure everything is tightened correctly. If you want, you can carefully reach your hand down and try to feel any exhaust escaping. For the clonk, try to listen for when and where the noise comes from. Is it when the suspension is compressing? Or when you brake? Also, go under and shake anything and everything. If you can recreate the noise there, you most likely found the problem.
  7. Im looking to get my 121 TI cylinder head completely rebuilt and I was wondering about where to take it. Im still fairly new to 2002s, I only had mine for six months and Im still learning everything. I have read about JF Pro Independent and they seem to decent prices, but I want to know about the quality of work. Im only getting a standard rebuild, nothing too fancy. Does any one any info? Thanks, Andrew. goodnight85@cox.net
  8. What is the difference between the 121 and a 121 TI head?
  9. I have a '71 2002 with the original 121 TI head and block. The head is in need of replacing and I happen to have an E21 2.0 head from a '75 motor. I was planning on having the E21 rebuilt then swap heads, but only if the E21 head will work properly. Will this head work for my '71 motor?
  10. Where can you get the linkage for the single sidedraft set up? Or can I just modify a dual carb linkage?
  11. I have seen single sidedraft manifolds on ebay periodically and now I see Lynx will be making them. How well does the one sidedraft carb work on our BMW four cylinders? I used to work with Triumphs 1500s and the single sidedraft conversions weren't very useful and many were traded for duel sidedrafts or one downdraft carb.
  12. Use Jet Hot. Inexpensive, decent turn around, they will last way longer than a spray can from Track Auto and wont damage your headers like wraps. We have used them for some of our racecar headers and they work very well.

  14. Me and a friend both have 71 2002s that we both work on in Fairfax. I have access to a full race shop. If you need help, let us know, Andrew.
  15. The radiator is not a direct bolt in. There are a few things needed to install it, but it isnt difficult. Check this list from the forum: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,284983/highlight The NAPA part number: 8877 is for a 1993-97 Infiniti J30 radiator hose. You will have to cut it to fit, but it works pretty well.
  16. I would love to try out that set up. Email me at goodnight85@cox.net to let me know when is good for you. Thanks, Andrew
  17. I am fairly new to BMW 2002s, but not automobiles. I got my '71 Golf Yellow 2002 in mid march and have been getting it to a working street car. So far, the car is pretty much stock. I have been looking into a lower, stiffer suspension set up. I will be using the car on the street fairly often but also for BMW DE and track events at SUmmit Point raceway on the weekends. Anybody have any good sugestions for springs and shocks? I have been thinking of Bilstein Sports and either H & R springs or Ireland stage 2 springs?
  18. I was given a Personal wheel, they seem to have the same bolt pattern as Nardi wheels. I can not find an adapter for my 1971 2002. My question is what other BMWs had the same splines as the 2002 so that I may find the correct adapter? Or, where can I get the right adapter for my car? Thanks, Andrew
  19. Just bought my first BMW. A 1971 2002 - Gulf Yellow. It is in great shape and doesnt need much. My first question is what motor oil do I use. I live close the Washington DC, so Im in a fairly temperate climate. Also, What kind of gear oil do I use in the diff? Thanks.
