  1. That would depend on the condition of the '75 vs the older model. But a factory '75 vs a factory older model, both in equal shape, the older model would triumph. The later '75 is heavier and has the emissions equipment. That on its own would detract from the performance when compared to the lighter, earlier car. But don't fret, you can do plenty to your '75 to get it above and beyond any older model.
  2. If you are getting 50% leakage and it is coming through into the oil pan, then either the rings or the cylinders are dying. The lower the %, the better, usually you only want about 2 - 5% leakage on all cylinders and a big difference between any two or more is a bad sign. if you are getting 50% across the board, then you might be doing something wrong. To do a proper leak down, make the fitting is tight in the spark plug hole and that the cylinder you are on is at TDC, depending on the gauge (or at least the ones I have used), you crank the knob to get the needle as close to 100% as possible and the other gauge will read your leak down, if there is a leak, it will be in either the intake valve, exhaust valve or the cylinder/rings. If it is a valve, you can twist the cam back and forth and/or hit the top of the valve (actually the part of the rocker above the valve) and see if moving the valve helps. If it is your cylinders/rings, then you gotta get those fixed. Hope this helps.
  3. oil coming out of the top right valve cover stud
  4. I bought one a while back, nice piece, but it didn't fit. It was too thick and it hit my fan. They took it back and gave me a full refund, they said that sometimes the radiator they made wont fit because the bodies on our 02s can be damaged slightly preventing "proper" fitment. In my opinion, the 320 Behr radiator was one of the best mods I ever did, plus it is cheaper.
  5. You can get "tuner" style lugs that fit. They are usually quite narrow and use a large hex key to tighten them. Here is an example: http://packracingproducts.com/acatalog/Tuner_Lug_Nuts.html Hope this helps, Andrew.
  6. I am getting my '71 02 painted in the next couple of weeks and before it goes in, I was thinking of having my 320 turbines painted. The car will be a dark "british racing" green and I am considering having the wheels painted either gold or black while keeping the lip silver. Does anyone have any pics of some painted turbines, I don't care if they are on a car or not, just trying to get an idea. Thanks, Andrew
  7. The shift linkage on my '02 is getting worn. Instead of just replacing factory pieces, I am considering a short shift kit. I have done some lookin' around and found a few sources with quite a range in pricing. Has anyone had good luck with certain ones? So far, I like the short shift kits from www.autosolutions.net. Any feedback would be great. The others I have seen are from Ireland, racetep, Korman, BMP design and Bavauto. I also saw that B & M makes just a "race" shift lever, worth while?
  8. I have an IE 22m front sway bar that I pulled off today to get to my oil pan, but before I put it back on, I need to get it repainted. The blue paint has been slowly peeling since last years installation and I would like something that would hold up for sometime. I did some reading and found powdercoating or epoxy paint hold up well on a sway bar, any recommendations?
  9. I found this car on ebay, clearly it needs some work, but I was curious about the front air dam and what brand it might be. Any info would help.
  10. I guess it all depends on your intented use for the car. If it is only going to be a daily driver, than focus on comfort, reliability and fuel usage. If you plan on visiting the track/autocross, then have some sportier items added, like the items you listed. But for everything, I have found that removing as much weight as I can has been the biggest improvement to my daily driver/occasional track rat. Just whatever you do, do it right, take your time and do your research. We all see plenty of cars on and off the forum that we wish belonged in the proper hands. These cars are some of the best and most timeless classics and we need to keep them alive and kickin'
  11. I am looking to swap out my current Weber 38/38 DGES carb, manifold, custom airbox, phenolic spacer and misc hardware for two DCOE carbs, linkage, water neck and cooling line. I currently have two manifolds for the DCOEs. If anyone has any or all of these parts and you are looking to unload them, please email me. I am open to a trade with some extra cash as needed. Thanks. goodnight85@verizon.net
  12. I have been seeing these headers on ebay for the past few months and I was curious if anyone has actually bought one and installed it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__BMW-2002-Tii-2002Tii-68-73-Equal-Length-Exhaust-Header_W0QQitemZ270273750982QQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadiZ2865QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270273750982&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A10|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 The Item number: 270273750982 If so, could you post any reviews or comments. Do they work well, do they fit well?
  13. I am looking for a few parts while my car undergoes a transformation this fall/winter. I am looking for the following: - Front spoiler, but not just any like the ones found at Bav Auto, but more like the two pictured from Cahsel in Deutschland. - Either a shorty header or a supersprint header (really just a 4-2-1 header) - a rear fibreglass spoiler, color not important - 13" or 14" wheels, preferably alloy and funky lookin' - aluminum front strut brace (preferably one that works with a downdraft carb) If anyone has any of these parts and they want to rid themselves of them, email me at goodnight85@verizon.net
  14. I need the hardware and clips that attach the trim the the hood and beltline. Any info would be great, please email me at goodnight85@verizon.net.
  15. I need to either buy or source the black clips and hardware to properly mount the chrome trim to the hood. Please email me at goodnight85@verizon.net. Thanks, Andrew
  16. I'm looking for a few pictures of some 02's, preferably round tail lights, with the black hood, trunk and belt line, but some other body color (Alpina style). I have obviously seen orange with the black and red with black. But I was hoping for blue, green, gray, yellow, white or silver with the black coloring. Anything will do, I am trying to decide what color to paint my car. Thanks, Andrew
  17. I'm looking for a fiberglass spoiler, just has to be in good, useable shape. Also want a set of plastic turbo fender flares, also in good shape. Please email me at goodnight85@verizon.net
  18. Try these: http://packracingproducts.com/acatalog/Tuner_Lug_Nuts.html Just make sure your wheel stems aren't too long.
  19. My 2002 is carbed, but I just replaced the head last week and the intake manifold and intake ports were very clean. It looks to me like something is leaking. I am not familiar with the tii engine, but does the PCV vent into the intake plenum? If so, you might do some research and see about routing it into the atmosphere rather than your intake.
  20. I'm looking for a fiberglass trunk spoiler for sale. Also looking for nice spring/shock combo. Preferably IE stage 2/Bilstein sports, but other sets ups welcome. Also, plastic turbo fender flares Finally, looking for a set of fixed camber plates Pleas email me at goodnight85@verizon.net. Thanks, Andrew
  21. Sounds like the accelerator pump circuit. It could be clogged and/or have jetted incorrectly. When was the last time they were rebuilt? If you can, when the car is running and at full temp, look down the barrels with a light and move the throttle, see if you are getting the little shots of gas from the accel. pumps.
  22. I have never heard of your problem, but I can tell you that it is a problem. The valve cover breather is supposed to let built up pressure within the engine escape. With your problem of it sucking in AND having a smoother idle, it sounds as if un-metered air is making its way into the combustion chamber. Im not sure what the problem would be though, you will have to do some investigating to figure out the problem. My first thought would be to give the car a cylinder leak test and determine if the valves are leaking and which one. Based on your symptoms, it sounds as is an intake valve seal is leaking enough to let air by (if possible). Let us know what you find.
