  1. Steve, I just got the page up on the socalvintagebmw.com site, and we'll probably be meeting up in Ojai about 7 and heading up 33 from there. I'll get a headcount as soon as possible for you and for Jeff Ireland. I'll put up a new thread on the Events and GD page, as well as on the other sites. Jeff

  3. Michael, we're looking forward to the NoCal guys coming down, is there going to be a caravan? Steve, nice of you to offer accomodations.....! Gordon.....You'll have to give us a report on your findings when you get back...I'm actually glad you're bringing the E3, for some reason the E3 community is totally missing.....I must not be doing their secret online handshake or something..... Jeff

  5. We're a little over a month away from the SoCal Vintage BMW Meet in Van Nuys and I wanted to thank those that have already registered for the meet and encourage those that have not yet registered to do so as soon as possible. Please go to www.socalvintagebmw.com to do so. We need to get as close a head count as possible for tshirts, and other show gifts, as well as letting Parks & Recreation know how many folks will be there. As such, registration rates will go up after next weekend from $20/car to $30/Car and Swap Spaces from $15 to $25. Again, please register as soon as you can as this will help us to better coordinate things. I've updated the Lodging page with info for the Airtel hotel, as well as the location for a nearby self service car wash for those that want to get off any road grime and bugs. There is also a new Sponsor page, for those businesses that are kicking in financial support. By the way, does anyone know where all the E3 guys are? For some unknown reason they are Missing in Action through all this (except Gordon P and Brian L) despite mine and John's efforts to get them in the fold. If you know any E3 owners, drop them a note and tell them to get their 2500/2800/Bav's registered! We're going to have a fun meet, thanks for everyone's encouragement and support. Jeff
  6. Ok, Steve, you are right, we will have SoCal Vintage BMW team up with VARA and we will get a drive organized up to Buttonwillow. Everyone is right, we need to support each other as much as possible....John was talking about a drive up CA 33 to go there instead of the 5, so we'll see. I'll get things rolling on socalvintagebmw.com this weekend and start rallying troops....I think that we'll be able to have some pit access and drive on the track during the lunch break as well if i get my act together....but I'll have to get all the details for sure.... Jeff

  8. Sorry, Steve, my bad. I agree, it would be a good day to meet up with everyone. I myself can't make it, I'll be out of town right about that time, and swamped with getting Meet stuff lined up. But....feel free to pimp the Meet while you're there...lol. I'm terrible......thanks. I probably should post some info on the website at least.....when I get some time...ack Jeff
  9. Thanks Steve, the hours of the meet will be 9AM - 4PM, although I'm sure I'll be there 6 to 6! I know Jeff was organinzing the Buttonwillow Race meet, but I'm going to leave that to the guys that want to race their cars...maybe John B, Pierre, Jack, etc, thay may head up...I haven't checked with them on it. I think they are doing an informal run up 33 to Frazier Park this coming weekend though. Too fast a crowd for me, I get nervous on mountain roads going 80........! Jeff
  10. For those of you that are coming from out of town to attend the SoCal Vintage BMW Meet on Saturday Oct. 11, we have been able to secure some very favorable rates with a couple of hotels very close to the Meet - and all this information is posted on the website as well - socalvintagebmw.com. Hoiday Inn Express is offering the best group rate of $109.00 plus tax, including hot breakfast in the morning, parking, local calls, and internet connection. Call Ellen Mapue at 818-989-5010 directly or e-mail her at calhosp@aol.com to book reservation, and mention you are with the SoCal Vintage BMW Group. Rooms are on a first come, first served basis, so don't delay. Carriage House Best Western is offering a rate of $109 for a King Bed room and $118 for two Queen Beds (plus tax). Call 877-787-2300 and say you are part of the SoCal Vintage BMW Group. Reservations must be made at least a week prior to the event, as they will release any remaining rooms to the public by then. We're looking forward to a great meet, and are contemplating a Malibu drive in September, so feel free to give your indication of interest on that as well. Info on food will be posted shortly! Anyone who hasn't registered for the show please do so, as registration fees will go up after September 7. Thanks! Jeff
  11. So, after over a year in mechanical/body/paint restoration and much more money than I dare discuss, the Polaris tii is officially back on the road! It's a very stock driver, that's had the Euro treatment done trim wise (save the rear fender lights - I have to have some lights back there in LA night traffic....) The car drives amazingly (thanks Jack Fahuna) and I'm having some fun with it.....alas, I'll probably have to sell it because I have no room. A couple of photos below, I love the Golde pop-up wind deflectors with the open sunroof..... Photos were up at the top of Stunt High Road in the Malibu mountains, scouting out a SoCal Vintage Malibu drive for next month.....and by the way, if you haven't registered for the show yet......you are waiting for what exactly? Seriously, reg rates will go up soon, and I'm going to have lodging info for the out of town guys this week, as well as food info (BBQ!) for the show as well....lets make this HUGE!!! Thank you for your indulgence..... Jeff mit tii
  12. Thanks Matt, I felt badly about it, hope the exhaust is ok. While you were there you could have pestered Jeff Ireland to give you one of his exhaust systems for a discount....! Norm, they didn't start the car up, but it looked like it was going 100 mph just sitting there - just like your tricked out CS. Can't wait for more.... Jeff
  13. We had a kickin' day yesterday - I especially want to thank Tom Rakestraw, Mike Pelly and Andy Wong for helping get everything going in the OC - Tom, having the Vintage BMW sign as the 'Featured Marque" was a great fun surprise, and Mike that drive was beautiful. The OC E9 guys stepped up. Ron I deserves a lot of credit for getting his place cleaned up and ready, I wouldn't have guessed there was a fire there. He's a stand up guy and a straight shooter, a good person to throw your car work at if you're anywhere in his neighborhood. I want to drive like Murray when I grow up as well. Thank you all. Photos are up at the website: http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/OCDrivePhotos.html I'm sorry I don't have better/more photos from the actual drive - keeping up with the E9's armed only with a 38/38 on my M10 and the 4 speed trans kept me busy. My apologies for not having printed maps, and especially to Dave and Matt Schwartz (love that cabrio....) for the mix up on departure times. I think by the time the event rolls around I might have this stuff down pat. Oh, well.... Next up, we;ll have a NOS parts day (and bbq?) at John Barlow's parts depot and car storage in Van Nuys. You may get to see NOS stuff you didn't even know existed......and Malibu is first weekend after Labor Day. Oh yeah, there's this cool meet in Van Nuys in October as well...so if you haven't yet registered for it......theres no excuse at this point! Thanks again. Jeff
  14. Ok, Drivers..... I'm going to have to give Ron I a headcount by Monday, but I wanted to find out right now those of you that are definitely in for next Saturday. Mike Pelly and Tom Rakestraw have been making a strong effort to generate interest in the drive down in OC, and if we get a commitment of 20 cars, we can reserve space in the front lot in Irvine. The E9 guys in OC are stepping up and helping to build this vintage BMW community - brilliant! Once we have a hard number we'll finalize the route(s),as there has been some discussion about getting to Ron's a little earlier to participate more in his event and not just show up and down his brats and beers - a valid point. We want to give Ron's event the respect it deserves. More on this later, but we leave a choice to either go up the 73 to shave some time (30-45 min and pay a $4 toll)for those who feel it better to get there earlier or keep on the coast route for those who are ok to get there later - probably 10:30 the latest. So, just email me - socalvintagebmw@yahoo.com - and let me know you're in and COMMITTED, and I'll pass on the info. I'm already cooking up the Malibu Drive.....thanks again! Jeff

  16. SoCal Drivers! Firstly, a big thank you to Mike Pelly, Tom Rakestraw and Andy Wong for putting together a really great route for us to drive. Everyone's early support is really helpful in building our SoCal Vintage BMW community, and these fun drives leading up to the October Meet. As you may know, Ron Inchausti at Coast Motorwerks who is having his annual open house at the CW shop in Huntington Beach on Saturday 7/19 and Ron graciously said he would love to have a line of vintage BMW's pull up midday when the brats are coming off the grill. We'll all meet at the Cars & Coffee at the Ford/Mazda campus in Irvine, 7905 Gateway Blvd, Irvine, CA 92618, anytime after 7AM (Don't expect me there at 7!) and head out of there 9-9:15. First ones there need to fight off the Porsches so we can park together! Go to http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/WarmUpDrives.html and click on the OC Drive link. Once the map loads, click the 'show all directions link' on the left side and voila, road map with direction. Should have done that for Angeles Crest. Live and learn. Ron needs to know how much food to order and such, so anyone who wants to go must confirm by the end of this weekend, so I can let Ron know just how many crazed and hungry vintage cars and drivers will show up. We want to be considerate guests, so we need to respect his request. Please do not say you're going unless you fully intend to. So, please let me know at your first convenience. Email me at socalvintagebmw@yahoo.com. LOVE to see the OC and SD guys out in force. Thanks again guys. Jeff

  18. The Stang is a welcome addition....but only if it has the Hi-Po 289 under the hood! (j/k, but it looks like Hi Po badging on the front fender) anyway, my first car was a '66 Convertible, and that was an adventure driving that rust out special in New York....especially during the winter.....Anyone up for a OC drive on 7/19? Jeff
  19. Yeah, more fun to come, I'm hoping to have the tii out for a shake down on the next run, which I'm cooking up....waiting to hear back on a couple of things, but lets say later in July we'll all be doing it again.....everyone call out their E3, E9 and NK friends for not making it out this time...and that they better get out for the next one! Jeff
  20. Thanks Steve, great photos, and I see some hard work paid off. John H, we're planning an OC drive, so hopefully we'll see you there.....it was a fun day, and I thought I drove fast, but the driving pro's were out on this run....by the time I pulled up to the final lineup the tii's had to kick the cold start valves in. John C, sorry you had to leave early, but always good to see you and I know I'll see you soon, gosh your car is so well put together, I admire your work under the hood a WHOLE lot.......John Barlow was a very gracious, patient host, and his wife Alexis deserves some serious cred...and a gift.....hear that John!!! We'll do more in July.... Jeff
  21. We had a bit of fun yesterday, 18 cars zooming about in the HOT mountains.....a few misdirections but we all had a great day and the bbq at JB's was a whole lot of fun....next drive, JULY! Jeff
  22. A little tease of what fun we had today...had about 18 cars zooming along the Angeles Crest.....it was hot though.... Jeff
  23. Bring the Lotus, we love Elans! Before we go out in the morning there may be a couple of guys that may drive up the Crest for a while and then come back for the bbq. We'll have a pow wow at 7:55AM tomorrow morning on it! Jeff
  24. There may be one or two that don't want to hike, my suggestion would be to drive up the Angeles Crest for another half hour or so, and then come back down to JB4's place......? Jeff
  25. OK! Last day to register for tomorrow's Angeles Crest Enduro Drive/Hike/BBQ, and we've got 15 cars lined up so far that have registered, and John has told me that another 10 or so have emailed saying they're coming, although they will be called out for not going through the website! Sorry for all the registration hassles, but that's event management sometimes. The BBQ will have great menu, but those details are for the registrants only! I've just looked at my US Forest Parking pass that I bought over at the Big 5 and it says that it's a $100 ticket if you park without one. So, if you're coming, make sure you pick one up, and they are probably available at your nearby sporting goods store. Go to socalvintagebmw.com and sign up! Yay! Jeff
