  1. So, you can buy all the stuff, but lb to $ conversion + shipping will kill you, so unless you have deep pockets, fab up yourself (good fun, learning experience) By the time i'm done i'll have a 200hp engine for less than $2000 and thats including the ITB's and MS3 stuff......you couldn't buy the conversion stuff for that. There isn't a ton, but you have to get the water rail from the rear of the engine to the front for the radiator (the Ranger has something...but you'll still need to do some work). Because you won't be using the power steering pump, you will have to custom make an idler pulley mount to re-route the accessory belt as well as possibly have to grind down/off the engine mount on the front of the engine (unless you get a ranger variant). If you got a ranger Duratec, you'd want a head from a focus or car variant as it is set up for more torque, less HP I believe.

As for tranny, you could get a bellhousing as the others said, but why spend $600 on that plus need a transmission as well, when you can get a 5-speed MX-5 box for less, or if you search hard you can even get a 6-speed box for less as well (what I did). Real cheap route is the Ranger 5-speed.....but it's a truck transmission.

Like I said before, buy one loaded with as many sensors, wiring, alternator, starter if you can, otherwise you will add a few hundred buying all this stuff.

  2. Minus the ITB's which I made with GSXR throttle bodies, and the exhaust....it's bone stock (+ all the RWD stuff I had to make myself since it was a FWD focus). The stock heads flow so well as it is, freeing up before and after will net you close to 200hp....add cams and such, probably 215....start upgrading other stuff, you get the picture. Maybe 175 is the actual total for what i'm doing (for now), but I have heard people quote 200....so within that range.

  3. I've got one in my not yet running Cortina GT (see sig for link to my blog, not updated in a while tho). Good bit of custom fab work if you want to avoid ending big $ buying stuff to make it RWD. Should easily see 200HP though (ITB's and exhaust alone).

You can get one one ebay for close to $400 now which is nice, get one as fully loaded as you can though otherwise you spend a few more hundred on sensors, pigtails, alts etc.

  4. I've called the two truck for my car twice in the last year, and I get Sh*t for it all the time. BUT, i persevere and stick through it, I take the blows knowing I can do what many can't (and won't even try).

The first call was because of a failed component on my megasquirt board (yes, home soldered etc)....the second call because my fuel pump fuse blew (wish I had figured that out before I called the tow truck and got home). This was partially my fault (never finished up the wiring after the first test drives...shorted out when they touched).

So, stick with it, you will figure it out, take the ridicule because just knowing you did something most can't these days is impressive and should be a source of pride for you.

Yep, any mention of taking my car out on a drive I get the "oh, well you better not call later for a tow truck number", and I go out and enjoy every minute of my drive =)

  5. So I got a relay harness for my h4's' in the process of trying to get this installed I noticed My passenger side turn signal light coming on full (not blinking) when I turn the lights on. I've been messing around trying to fix, but with our string of nice days about to go away I'd like to get it out! Hope you can help, I'm sure its something stupid (yes, it still does this after removing the harness from the pass side

    Thanks,

  6. I'm not sure if anyone has posted yet on actually installing the autosport labs tach adapter, but I thought i'd give it a try at $10 + $5 shipping. It looked a lot cleaner than the basic diode soldered in with the wiring like most do......so yah.

BUT, sucess!! I have a nice clean smooth tach signal, looks to not have any issues. Just thought i'd share.

  7. After going to the Vintage races at SIR in Seattle at 13, I got in to cars.....Big time. I really wanted a Mini, loved the little things. I bought all the mini magazines at the book store, looked on the internet, we looked at a few.

We went to the British car show when I was 16 and almost bought one there for sale, but the blue smoke at start up had us walking away.

The next weekend my dad was looking in the classified adds in the paper and said, hey, lets go look at this red 73' 2002. He had bought a new 1974 and had passed on the 320i when it came out as he didn't like the gearbox ( in comparison to the 02)

We went to look at the car, as I walked up the driveway I saw the Verona red 02 sitting in the garage, I saw the racing seats, the panasports....and I was hooked. The guy took me for a ride and that was it, done. I still have this car, 14 years this July I believe.

  8. Ford Duratec (From 2005 up Focus, Fusions, Escapes, Rangers etc). You can get these really cheap, though all but Ranger are in FWD applications so you have to fab up or buy a bunch of parts to make RWD........but you can get the MX-5 (2006 and up) engine and trans, or just trans......

I've got a 2.0L going in to a 66' Cortina, with ITB's and exhaust it should be getting close to 200hp...add cams and some more work, pushing 250....

So, depending on what you want to do, an S2000 is already there, so ya....

  9. Same thing happened to me when I bought my Cortina GT project car. Went to register, they had no listing in the NADA (despite having my bill of sale). They called up another place and said it was a $15K car........I said hell no, I couldn't buy it if it was that much, I told them it was project car, no engine, needing lots of work, new interior etc......they they accepted my Bill of sale Value........I was like HOLY SH*T, the tax will cost me more than the car!!

  10. I always say, when I die.......this is my heaven (Monterey week). Or it is my ideal "groundhogs day", this week over, and over, and over, and over....

2016 would be rad, that means my son (now 4 months) will be heading down with me in my 02, and hopefully my Dad (start taking better care of your health dumbass).

Well, those that are there this week, have fun for all of us that aren't, and post pics......I usually take 2000 over the course of the weekend (and no, I don't have a DSLR take can take bursts)

  11. Yes, this integra seat fits with some work, I have one for sale for $25 up in Seattle, or an E30 convertible seat (also works with work, looks like E30 M3 seat.....but needs some extra bolsters put in the side to fill in the space) for $75

  12. I have 2 sabelt 4 pt harness's with the mounting hardware. Used, 14 years old, in good shape though: $100 + shipping

I have 1 Recaro seat slider, was mounted to SPARCO racing seat with adapers to the seat.......so i'm not sure what they fit, I can provide dimensions if needed, but they did mount to the seat mounts (no the rails) $75 + shipping

  13. I've got an E30 convertible rear seat, looks exactly like the E30 M3 rear seat but with a little less width on either side........so it needs some foam filling to get to fit nice. BUT, if you are doing a re-upholstery job, just shape some foam to fill and you are golden. BTW, I have the said rear seat for sale $75 + shipping
