Looking for 2002 in Ontario, Canada.

How long have you been looking? Definitely will be harder for you to find a Canadian car in Ontario due to rust. Keep watching here, Craigslist, etc. and eventually you will find something close enough to look at. I do notice US NE cars showing here regularly.

I ended up bringing one in from California. If you are looking for a sub $2000 project you won't likely be driving it cross country so towing will be pricy.

Good luck.

Fly to CA and drive it back, plenty of cheap 76 2002's FS there. Most CA 02's are relatively rust free compared to cars in the rust belt. You want to find the least rust free car you can. Mechanical work is child's play compared to rust and body work. Think of the road trip adventure of driving your new 02 across country.

Don't bother.....trust me........DO NOT BUY AN ONTARIO CAR!!!!!!!

They are all rustbags, and they are rusting from the inside out. You see them advertised as "rust free" all the time, but have none of it....

THE ONLY PERSON IN ONTARIO WHO SAYS A CAR IS RUST FREE IS THE PERSON SELLING IT!!!! Ask all the 02 owners you meet, or here on the board if they have ever seen or heard of a clean 2002. The last one seen was in 1979:)

Take your 2000 bucks, have someone on the board find you a decent running project 76 smog flunkie from California for a thousand bucks. Call DAS autoshippers, and spend 700 bucks to deliver it to Buffalo NY. The import process is daunting the first time through, but it is, in reality, a breeze.Take the remaining 300 bucks to pay for a tow dolly, duties etc. and you will be WAY further ahead.

I have done this a dozen times, but don't take my word for it.....ask on the general discussion section if anyone from the northeast has been disappointed with a project purchased in southern California.

Just my .02

Thanks for the responses.

I feel the best option probably would be to ship it in from the states - picking it up in Buffalo, or somewhere nearby, sounds reasonable too.

How do you go about dealing with someone though? It seems like a good way to get scammed - since the seller isn't going to let his car get shipped without his money.

Like Edward said above, try to work out something with a respected guy here on the board. Even if you have to pay him a consulting fee it will be worth it, but lots of guys are happy to be looking for a car with someone elses money. I was lucky enough to have a friend in SF but my next option would have been the board route.

You can probably find several stories like this with search.

You should be able to talk the seller down on the price – it is way tooooo high for the condition of the car. At that price the car will NEVER sell. The body needs a full restoration.

good luck

Most people won't talk down 4,000 $ though - as I said I was looking for a 2000 $ or below project.

I may send him an email though - thanks for your find.

Edit: i have come across several 2002's in the region, they are just usually too high priced or a complete rust bucket. I will keep looking though, thanks for the help.

my personal experience is : Don't ever buy a car before you actually are standing in front of it. I don't care where it is. t got raped buying my 02 on Ebay.

Find a nice 02 in CA, pay somebody here to really give it a once over and then come out and see it. then either drive it back or have it towed. plenty of towers available and probably cheaper than DAS. (their small print scared the shit out of me)

Take your time.

there is no 2 grand car. its either a one grand car that's over priced or its a two grand car that you will immediately have to put a grand into just to be safe and or legal.

save some more bread, you're gonna put it into the car sooner or later.

its cheaper up front believe me.

I agree with Edward, depending on what you want and what you can fix. I had my '76 shipped from California by Edward's method. Rust was contained to one floorpan and very few surface spots on the roof. $750 purchase and $620 shipping. By comparison there's a 73 available in Michigan right now that has rusted through quarters, fenders, spare tire well and possibly alot more. $2500. While I know you can't directly compare a 76 to a 73, when rust is the issue, give me the 76 every time. It's a killer on these cars.

Hey Sach,

I looked at that car when it was being sold to this guy and it was going for 3900. I offered 3200 to the po and he hemmed and hawed and sold it to this guy. Too much hidden from the new paint. Go to Cali.

As an aside, I wound up getting into a serious project 73 tii that has untold hours in metal work and welding ( which I do Myself). I ask myself everyday why I am not just buying a nice clean shell..... I guess I'll have good karma for the next car I get.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
