The Hayne's manual specifies "gasket jointing compound" on most of the newly applied gaskets during repair/rebuild. Any favorite brand(s), or any to avoid that I should know about before create leaks that are FUBAR? The reassembly begins this week.

for things like oil pan gasket, timing cover gaskets, water pump gasket i used the paper gasket plus a thin layer of Permatex Ultra Grey on each side. Works great. no leaks.

we did this a few months back.

Short version- RTV for the front cover joints and rear mainseal cover

oil pan overlap.

And on the rear right head bolt, for me.

Then I only use gasket sealer on the waterpump and the places where water touches paper.
