Keys are swappable?

Question - I have a 76 parts car and a 74 driver. The ignition key for either car can open the door locks. But the ignition is unique to each car.

Is this by design or a fluke? It's going to work in my favor because the ignition switch in the 74 is starting to 'stick'.

Does this mean any key can open any 02 door?

There's probably some wafers missing from the door lock tumblers.

'02's weren't exactly "high security", and with age, with the locking mechanism wearing it doesn't help.

When you're parking your '02 in public just make sure you have a club on the wheel, and never leave anything in it.

the key from my '70 works in my '73....in the ignition
