Kugelfischer Injector Pump Testing?

kubes

Recommended Posts

I just bought and picked a 72 tii, finally! A po had removed the entire injection system. Needless to say I want to put it back on. The guy I bought the car from said he though it was ok, but its was removed when he bought the car. Yesterday by chance I was able to talk with the mechanic that did the work. He said the reason it was removed was the car was running rich and they believed the injector pump was bad. So it was cheaper to put a downdraft Weber than a new pump.

So my question is this, prior to me installing everything is there a means to bench test the pump and injectors? BTW I am in New England.

Thanks!!!!!!

as I stated down a few threads below this - tii injection pump subject.

best to back track all the nut

twisting-hacks 'diagnosis' and

start from the beginning.

ASSUME nothing is really wrong with the

car - it just needs 'CORRECT' service settings.

Compression?

any cam shaft lobes worn off ?

cam shaft timing?

injection pump timing?

valve clearance?

condition and time of ignition system?

condition of the fuel supply up to the injection pump - pressure reading?

pump control linkage and warm-up regulator function?

injector nozzles?

the Kugelfischer injection pump is the LAST place

and least troublesome part of the motor to blame for poor running

it's all the stuff connected, adjusted(not) around it

Thanks Darien .. as the injector pump (and the entire system) is not currently installed its hard to test how it works and the systems around it. I wanted to make sure it was okay prior spending the time re-installing everything only to find out it needs rebuilt. My feeling its that its was removed for a reason...

I talked with Hans at H&R and he's going to bench test it for me. Seems easiest and cheapest way to go.
