Distributor Rebuild Kit?

GD

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever found a distributor rebuild kit for mechanical advance dizzies? I just got a fireball 3000 and decided to take the distributor apart before I install the new stuff. The shims look a little beat and the car has one of the symptoms of weak advance springs, ie. I drive the car until it is hot, turn it off, turn it back on, and it doesn't want to idle right. I realize that that could be a couple of other things besides an advance problem.

Should I worry about the springs or just put it back together and hope the fireball fixes all of my problems?

Redszus can rebuild it as well (if he still does). He did mine -- in 1987!

See the link on the Kugelfischer page on the faq.

Cheers,

Ray

I'm wondering about the same thing.... but I'm not ready to box up my dizzy and send it to anybody though, plus don't want to spend that much money.

I've been googling and googling... but no luck yet.

UPDATE:

Thanks for the info. I exchanged emails with Jeff at Advanced Distributors. Rebuilds for 2002 units average $100 depending on the setup and condition. Simply fill out the curve worksheet on his website and send it in.

I also found a shop less than a mile from my house that may be able to handle it. I think I will clean mine and try it with the Crane conversion this weekend. Next week I'll take the dizzy up to that local shop and talk to them about servicing and parts availability. I'll report back with my findings.
