Petrol Tank Resto help needed

Yes i need some ideas on how fix my tank. Has been hit at the front. Some rust around the seams, but nothing special. Inside is clean as a whistle.

I intended to use a POR-15 tank kit to clean it up, and then paint it.

If i some how get the front pushed out I'm afraid it will do more damage than good as the metal has been stretched and is old. Some pretty sharp angles.

What do you reckon, how have people fixed this problem or do i just leave the dents.

cheers

The one in Kilsyth. There was an e21 there but i didnt check it out. Yeh the 1600 had its fair share of rust. I was originally looking at it to restore but it had a poor repair job up the front and the lower sils and fenders were gone, not to mention there was a few dubius areas of thick bondo (took the trusty magnet with me!). The spare tyre well didnt look to have too much rust but i wasnt really looking that hard at it. This one was actually a REALLY early build one (in the first production run of 600 odd cars) and is actually a 1600-02. Ive always wanted an early 2002 or 1600 so i checked it out. I ended up just taking the bumpers with the early over riders - the resto job would have been a bit out of my league. Id like to grab the other early car only parts off it but moneys needed elsewhere :-(

With the Recaros, do you want any set or e21 Recaros only or just anything period/looks like an e21 Recaro?

Felix, the seats fro a RS2000 escort fit and are very period correct, but not Recaro's. I think that is where Tom was going with that.

Also I have done the POR-15 trick on my tank and can highly recomend it. I didnt have the dents though. But petrol is a liquid so it does not care about the dents, so unless you are looking at your car from flat on you back you would never see the dents. Cheers Beaner7102

i tried googling them, but no luck, i think i remember some on flebay a few months ago, got any pics?? I just want some seats that are more supportive than stock ones, look period correct and will fit ok. If i find some good ones ill get em recovered in perforated leather- i love that look and smell.

As Shaun said, the RS2000 seats fit and look good. There are a couple of people in the 02 Register with them. They are made by Scheel IIRC. There are a few styles made by Scheel actually. Kieth on my2002tii.com used a set of Scheels i believe too. I see the RS2000 style go on ebay for $400 usually so they are a bit of a bargain.

I have an early rear bar which i could give you (with permission of the owner - It was actually given to me, but ive used another one) but it will need rechroming. Im stoked i finally found a front/rear bar with the early over riders =D (for my next project!)

Just send me your wanted list haha... ill keep an eye out for you. Your not the first person whose asked me to keep an eye out for a set of E21 Recaros haha.
